Title: Sheriff > Lawyer
Post by: Tac on October 15, 2011, 08:01:15 PM
A lawyer runs a stop sign and gets pulled over by a sheriff's deputy. He thinks that he is smarter than the deputy because he is a lawyer from New York and is certain that he has a better education than any cop from Houston. He decides to prove this to himself and have some fun at the deputy's expense.

Deputy says, "License and registration, please."
Lawyer says, "What for?"
Deputy says, " You didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign."
Lawyer says, "I slowed down, and no one was coming."
Deputy says, "You still didn't come to a complete stop. License and registration, please."
Lawyer says, "What's the difference?"
Deputy says, "The difference is, you have to come to complete stop, that's the law. License and registration, please!"
Lawyer says, "If you can show me the legal difference between slow down and stop, I'll give you my license and registration; and you give me the ticket. If not, you let me go and don't give me the ticket."
Deputy says, "Sounds fair. Exit your vehicle, sir."
At this point, the deputy takes out his nightstick and starts beating the ever-loving crap out of the lawyer and says, "Do you want me to stop or just slow down?

I got nothing against regular cops, I just don't like the ones who stop people for speeding and stuff like that.
I got pulled over 3 times this september alone, just for speeding (this does not include boarder patrol and road blocks).

:lol That's funny. BTW what movie is that?
If my opinion was taken into account when the laws were made I'd be more inclined to follow them.
You remember that song from Back to the Future part 2, "I can't drive 55". :aok :D

Yeah, ones, last year. I came in 2 minutes late, my flight was canceled, and I got a $200 fine. I think they also did not let me rent the plane for 2-3 weeks after that.

Um, not to sound like a butt hole but if it was that important why didn't you leave sooner?

:rofl  you should consider changing your lifestyle so you're not so inclined to break the law. just judging by what you have said so far, you are part of the 10% that the laws are made for to keep from endangering the rest of us.

I respectfully disagree.

I'm not going to go into specific but I actually do try to keep it safe.

You may think you try to be safe but just from the self serving posts you have made here it's pretty obvious that you just don't like getting caught. In this case it's more like "a whine has been recorded". If you do something wrong, man up about it. It's not the cop's fault you were speeding. No reason to put the responsibility for your actions on them.

I got a ticket. I deserved it and paid it. No big deal. There are LOTS worse things that can and do happen to people.

Meow, i remember this 1 time when i was back in High school my mom got pulled over going 50 on the highway, the cop said that the speedlimit was 35, meow we were stopped within 15feet of a speed limit sign that said "50 MPH" and meow he claimed that since we didnt pass the sign we couldnt go the speed limit and gave us a rediculis ticket. My mom won at court tho  :D

On the way to work a few months back, 6 am, empty streets and i blew thru a yellow that turned red just as i entered the intersection and just as i noticed the patrol car sitting there. He pulled me over and asked "Know why I stopped you?" I sure did and I admitted blasting thru the light.
"Where you headed?" he asked. "Work" i told him.
"Next time be more carefull" and he let me go.

I have found being polite and honest goes a long way with the police.

I agree, it works on school administrators, too.  I once missed a detention, (I was late to class) and I came right into the principal's office, and told him that I had forgotten, that it was completely my fault, and that I would be in detention that afternoon.  It worked.

Unless you think that you really are smarter than the other person, honesty works better.  However, lying is the better option.  It's all about taking calculated risks.

Respectfully, you should go the speed limit.

BUT, with that being said, there are cops I don't like. A buddy of mine got pulled over on his way to school about 2 - 3 years ago, and the officer then said he "smelled" marijuana (and keep in mind, he won't even drink beer and he's 21 now) and the officer then proceeded to take apart his subs and his amp, while having him cuffed on the side of the road. After about 20 minutes of searching, the officer then left him there with a screw driver to put all his stuff back together with and left.

If anybody else has ever dealt with "WIL-CO" officers, there's a good chance they have a little bit less respect for the law. Hell, I've had them literally harass me before. But in Williamson County "You come in on vacation, you leave on probation" and that phrase alone keeps me from doing anything I shouldn't be doing until I cross over into Travis County.  :rock
