I don't get how they could put 1800+ hp in such a small, light airframe and still not break 400mph?   It looks like a very clean airframe.

I think she'd be a nasty little brute in the game.    +1  :aok

!) crappy fuel, it easily broke 400mph on American fuel and 2) it is actually pretty large.

Would you believe me if I said the Ki-84 was much faster than it? by 10-30 mph in some alts. Then again, maybe they won't nerf the 'Jack'. It's the 'Super Oscar' :)

It appears competitive in the MA.  As a question, this aircraft appears to break from the most of the other Japanese aircraft that we have in that it's role is very specific as an interceptor?  I think this would be alot of fun to fly.

So if it was added, would its top speed be modeled after its performance with japanese fuel or American?

i have asked the question about fuel before, i was told that aircraft are modeled with the fuel that they had and based on the actual performance in ww2....so they all have different fuels.....not the same high quality fuel for all.

Japanese fuel, just like the Ki-84.  If the Ki-84 was modeled with 100 octane it would do 420mph at 20,000ft.

Also pretty sure it'd see regular use in the MA, which the Ki.43 would not.

By the time the J2M came out, the Japanese were having to deal with the bombing of the home islands - they needed high altitude interceptors to try to stop B29 raids.

The KI44 and J2M get an undeserved reputation as non-turning bricks that climb and go fast for one reason.

Most of the reports on these two plane's maneuvering were first impression reports by pilots who had just transitioned to them from the KI43 and the Zero.

Reports from pilots who had more experience in the types were very different.

They turn very well with the maneuvering flaps and match up favorably against most allied planes.
