The lack of the Tu-2 is a MAJOR gap in the Soviet lineup, it ranks right up there with the He-111 missing in the German line up.

Have to agree on this - don't care if it's uber or not - still need it "eventually"

Tu-2Sh
Experimental ground-attack version. It was tested with various armament combinations: a 75mm (2.95 inches) gun, mounted in a solid nose or a battery of 48 7.62mm (0.30 inches) sub-machine guns fixed in the bomb bay, directed to fire downwards. [4]

Holy hell, imagine this flying over your tank - talk about death by pinging.

Fixed...

Tu-2 was a late-war addition and would be competitive in the LWA more, but... without wanting to sound dismissive or anything... it wasn't as much of a planset hole-filler as you might think.

SB-2, PE-2, and some others are more needed than the Tu-2.

Just sayin'.... To be fair, I think the Tu-2 would be fun as well. It just won't see all that much use in scenarios and setups and historical matches.

48x 7.62mm...  :O

The setup was experimental and not put into production. It was hard to load and set up, and it wasn't effective at all (intended for strafing ground troops).

Even the Lancaster and some other bombers tried similar setups. Almost all were abandoned as it really was just a dumb idea.

Yeah I figured experimental, I love reading some of the wackier designs some countries come up with, I can only imagine this version was made for a strafer of some sort for runways or ground troops, interesting because the IL-2 already had cluster bombs which made more sense to me.

I've always been interested in parasite fighters, for blimps and bombers - funny little things that never seem to work out.
