Yaks are such nice looking planes. . .
-
For whatever reason, the Yak I saw at the Champlin museum in Mesa AZ looked like a miserable pile of spare parts hammered together. Just terrible build quality. I didn't even go near it. :lol

Isn't that with everything built by Russia?
-
I honestly don't know. E.G. ... The La 9 I've seen very good pictures of didn't have anything like that Yak's ghetto airframe finish and piss-bottle canopy glass.

If Comrade Stalin had heard you say that about an aircraft made by the great patriotic workers of the soviet union he would have had you immediately sent to a coal mine in Siberia.

Nice pics, thanks. I saw the Yak-9U up at the Boeing Museum of Flight a few weeks ago, it was a nice looking plane. Loved the Ki-43 they had there too.

the early russian planes are notorious for their terrible construction quality, it changed with the Yak3/la5
-
Must be it. The La9 I've seen professional pics of looked nothing like it.
-
It really depended on what factory the Russian planes came from. Some factories were notorious for being terrible so much so that a plane from one or another could perform slightly worse than one from a decent factory. What I have read is the further east you went the worse the factories got.

Those are excellent pictures for anyone who is building a model of a Yak. Thanks for posting the links Lyric :aok
The ribbing along the side of the spine is a lot more subtle than I would have thought. The paint inside the cockpit is interesting. I think I see some tractor green in there.

Very nice cockpit photos, but I cant find the ammo counter! :P

Loved the Ki-43 they had there too.
