His problem isn't with the TE, it's with the Object Editor. Are you able to run the Object Editor?
-
The "Object Editor" crashes as soon as you start it or after you try to do something?
Are you running it as Administrator?
Are the editors installed in the default locations?
Do any of the other content editors crashing "Terrain Editor, Cloud editor, Mission Editor" ?
Need to know a little more info to diagnose the problem.

Midi, you need to upgrade that program to be user friendly.

Well there in lies the problem. I have been creating game content as far back as DOOM, prior to the
internet being main stream, and it was all modem to modem.
I can assure you that not a single "level, object, terrain" or any other editor for that matter
was or will ever be "User Friendly".
That's not really a bad thing to be honest, since there is so much more involved in creating content.
Game mechanics, a vast array of different system specs, game security, and basic aesthetics just to name a few.
For the most part if one puts in the time to research help files, read tutorials, and even ask
questions of the more experienced creators, they all become pretty user friendly to them.
I am not trying to be sarcastic, these are just my personal opinions on creating game content.
As always I am here to help.

midi, when i open object editor i see it build the gui on the right handside. as soon as it gets to the main screen(im assuming) it just stops working and throws an error.
terrain editor works fine. cloud editor opens up and i get a white screen with some letter on it. im assuming its working, but i'm not sure.
in windows7 ive tried running it as administrator, ive tried running it in compatibility mode, xpSP3, xpSP2, and 2000. does the same thing each time.
everything is in default locations.

OK make sure you have these 6 files in your editors root directory:
D3DX9_40.dll
htdlg.res
models.res
mss32.dll
shplib.res
stdshape.res
If all those are there try re-installing the AHEDIT2213.EXE and try again.
Let me know what you come up with

yes i have all of those file. ive reinstalled it, ive tried regsrv32 on the dll's, ive tried installing a microsoft XP virtual machine(xpSP3), it wont run on that either. ive reinstalled it into a different directory on a different drive, that didnt work.
-
Did it ever run for you? Where you at one time working on a shape/object? If so it may be corrupted and causing the editor to crash when loading it.
-
ive never used it before now. i have it on a xp machine at the office, it runs fine. just not my windows7 machine
-
Make sure there are no files in your "userlib" directory. .....\AHedit\userlib
If there is remove them and see if that fixes it.
If all the other editors are working for you under Win7 the the Object Editor should as well.

empty folder, nothing in it.

Went through this checklist just now midi everything is there the object editor will instantly freeze up with a object editor has stopped working. The other 2 programs will 'eventually' work until you go to actually do anything then it will lock up.
The odd time I will go back with new updates and try this stuff again, I can tell you that the object editor has never ever worked for me thats with vista and windows 7.
MrMidi I think when Oak is saying you should make it user friendly what he means is it should actually work, not how it is laid out. The other editors even the film viewer sometimes although to a lesser extent you get the feeling they are all teetering on the edge of locking up when you use them.

all fixed with new editor. life is good again! thanks to everyone for trying to help.
-
i was wrong, i went away for 2 weeks, and now it doesnt work. all i did was leave my machine running.
-
Even after rebooting it?
:salute

-
uninstall, reinstall. uninstall aces high and editors reinstall. reboot after installing every piece. uninstalling all, cleaning registry, reinstall. nothing works! its the frigging weirdest thing.
-
ok, next episode in the saga. i reloaded aces high on a D: drive by itself. object editor will come up one time and one time only. when it does come up, there is nothing listed in shapes. i dont know if this matters or not. it also does it on my windows7 machine at work too. yes im running windows7 -32 bit. also made sure none of them were "read only".
-
OK have you run the fix that adds the object shapes for the object editor.

Also You do NOT have to reinstall the editors AND the GAME they are independent of each other. You can build a terrain without having the game installed.

still dead even with the fix. installed a new drive, and downloaded it to that. still no worky. this is very frustrating.
-
That editor just dose not like you, Jeager.
-
installed it on a different machine. dell dimension 4500 pentium4 3.0, 2gigs of ram, 320 gig harddrive. windows7. did not work.
reinstalled windows XP on same machine. all set now. works on XP machine. just kind of a drag to have to use 2 different machines.
-
i know its been awhile, but i finally fixed this problem. for some reason it didnt work on win7-32 bit. i just reimaged my machine with win7-64 bit and it seems to work fine. very goofy but it works! yaay!
-
Yayyy!
-
Still find the situation strange :huh
Did you send any details to support in case there is something that needs to be looked at?
