To the FSO Community
First off We need to Send out a Congrats to Bino for his First ever Event Write up for FSO.
Salute Bino
Frame 1 Other then the Fuel Burn Ratio complaints and suggestions it all went well and no major problems other then that and the long flight times were fixed for Frame 2.
Frame 2 Basically no complaints at all and the ones that did pop up we fixed them and the Fuel Rates and Cvs were placed differently for Frame 2.
Frame 3 Cv's were jumped a little later then usual at the request of Admin to alleviates any problems. Once Set Up CM jumped Cv's they were released to the Countries CiC for the frame like all other past frames. Only a few late comers to the Event after all final Announcements were made about Fields closed and reason as explained to them.
But my main thought about this FSO is, As my First time around as Set up and Event CM I want to thank the players, without you we would not have events like this and the players are the reason FSO keeps going. Yes the Admins spend alot of time researching the battle's we the players are re creating and without the players these Events would not be able to go on, this just does not include FSO but all other Events offered by Ace's High Special Events Team and a Big <Salute> also goes out to those CM's also.
I appreciate the Salutes and all from the Players this Past month for a Job Well done and all but As my Mentor Say's The Admins Write the Event and the Setup Cm's build it, and Bouncer's make sure All Pilots are in uniform, Alot of players do no realize how much time and Effort goes into events like this and others they are not One Night Wonders and alot of thought goes into these events.
One Last thing I would like to mention is that If I Player gets sent a Pm asking what Squad he is With by the Set-Up Cm or bouncer for these events, please Answer those Pm's so we can make sure your accounted for, other then that you will be grounded and unable to fly.

The only complaint I have about this FSO was the bomber to fighter ratio. I am all for historical accuracy, but in Frame 3 VF-17 downed 36 enemy aircraft and still was a long shot from keeping C22 afloat. Other than that it was a target rich environment and we had a blast. <S> to the CMs :salute

The only complaint I have about this FSO was the bomber to fighter ratio.
I did not participate but I did create the frame 3 axis orders and that's the first thought I had.
60 A6M2s to defend 3 CV's and escort 3 attack groups. That leaves 10 per target. Of course this a little more difficult than it looks using the squad sizes and trying to get people in Zekes that hadn't flown them and keeping them under the max allowed. I had initially allotted way more than was allowed.
Historical limits are fine in some cases. But it works ideally when you have more than one fighter. I seriously considered D3A1 Carrier defense, but that's kind of silly and I dropped the idea.
Overall it looks like everyone had fun! Good Job Bino! I hope to fly in November when I go back to 1600 to 2400!

A lot of VF-17 was out of ammo (including me) and there was still quite a few enemy planes around toward the end. Making shots count toward the end became paramount, with a lot of us saving rounds to save squaddies versus chasing our own kills. VF-17 had a great time in this setup :aok

A really fun scenario overall. I like many had one raised eyebrow when we started counting the available fighters to the required task's as Nef pointed out above. But we adapted and moved out sharply :)
The 325th VFG defended Frame 1 and 2 and Attacked on Frame 3, Flew the F4 / SBD (fighter mode) and TBM so my comments are from that prospective:
You had to put the bomber AC into fighter defense mode or you would lose your ships for sure. For us that was the SBD's. And those were fun engagements. A SBD horde vs. a D3A horde is a fair fight :)
Scouting made all of the difference, we pushed our scouts out 50 miles from the boat and it mostly worked. Again a task for the SBD's and not the limited fighters.
The F4's had to stay over or very near the boat and they had to be prepared to deal with multiple waves of attacking AC. In many cases fighting 5 to 1. Meaning you just couldn't dive in on the first guy or the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th dive bombers gets past you. Really we used our F4's to break up the incoming attack at high altitude and hopefully force them to make a hasty off angle attack. And the limitless SBD's for the heavy defensive work.
Points mattered - I know many don't follow them but they matter and you had to be very careful about where and when you attacked vs. running away and gaining the landing bonus. In fact this was the first time where I was posting point ratio's per frame to my squad (my own internal calculations using the LOG data). That helped I would say. I liked the point scenario.
In almost 8 years of FSO play this was a first. In Frame 3 we launched 13 TBM's, attacked a CV Task Group and 7 made it back to the CV with safe landings. This was only possible due to the high bomber to low fighter ratio. In every other FSO scenario where we had TBM's or Torpedo's we all died and many times without reaching the target. So it was more enjoyable and better playable experience to reach the target, drop ordnance, and more than 50% return safely. In my humble opinion this fighter to bomber ratio should be considered in other scenario's.
The only BUG I experienced was in Frame 3: I created my mission while CV22 was in its pre jump location. After it jumped I attempted to edit the mission and lay in routes from its "game" position to the target area. Couldn't do it. Each time i tried the route would start from the "pre-jump" location. Couldn't make it change either. When in and out of the mission planner. I jumped back and forth between bases. Nothing I attempted could get the mission route to start from the CV's new location within it containment grid.
Bottom line:
Theres something to this low fighter to high bomber ratio that should be considered for other scenario's. I don't care if its historically accurate or not myself. Its a game and its got to be fun or folks don't show up.
The Point Scenario forced you to think as a planner or you could throw it for your side. As a CO or planner if you didn't consider the points in your plan you probably hosed your side.
Retain the larger CV containment box's. Its a little harder to find and requires more planning and coordination.

I agree, Bino designed a very equal planeset with simple goals. It truly was a matter of which tactics worked the best.

Thanks, folks! :salute I'm very glad so many spoke up about the fuel burn rate and distances after Frame One. Your input is always welcome and valuable, both positive and negative!
I hope that trying something a little different was fun. Having inherited the "PTO 42" slot when I joined the CM team, this seemed like an opportunity.
I'll try to get the scores tallied by the end of the week.

When I first saw the setup I though,here we go again another PTO event.
However I was pleasently surprize when I realized there was more to this event than meets the eye,fuel and range being 2 big factors and the use of attack/bombers planes for CAP and or escort brought a new type of immersion for me.Sort of like the real thing where they fielded what they had, all hands on deck kind of action.
This event was way more fun than I expected,helps when you fly with a good group,the only complaint from me would be in frame 3 and it's not anyone fault .I discoed on takeoff,then lost udp atleast 3 times had my screen freeze up during to of the loss of udp and the final 1 I froze then found myself on fire as the game came back then host lost connection..... :cry :cry
I can count the number of discoes on 1 hand that I've had in the last couple years,well until last night,now I need to learn to use those other 5 digits... :D
You guys who run FSO get a big :salute from me! is it friday yet???

Let me second that....I watched squads get together and come up with a plan that reflected no ego's just a whole lot of cooperation.
Was a real pleasure in the run-in to see everyone working to "get 'er done". :-)

:salute Bino! I want you guys to remember that it was Bino that acknowleged the problems of fuel burn and time and distance and changed his design "on the fly." That speaks volumes for the future. Notice the posts from the Boss CMs? They read everything and then quietly (sometimes not-so-quitely) discuss. I played a very small role in the background and got to watch Crazy8s and Imadot work. Mols is right that few know the extent of work that goes into each and every FSO. So why do it? It's the best part of the game, it has the best bosses, dreamers, builders, squads and pilots.... How can we give you anything less than our very best? Cya in the air...
