Looks like a great day!

I'm glad to see your boy got a bird. Pheasants seem to be getting fewer and fewer down here (iowa) these days. Do you notice that up there too?

Yes and no. We drove about an hour and a half south towards Mankato where hunting pressure seems to be much less of an issue. We managed four roosters and a hen so I'd say it was a good days work. Though a good dog seems to be the only way to find birds now days. I remember my great grandfather telling stories where he'd hit a corn field on the way home from work and "quickly" get a bird, by himself, for that nights dinner...

mmm...pheasant...tasty! :aok
yesterday i went out deer hunting with my bow, had 3 doe's scream for about 2 hours at me out when they got 5 feet from my blind as soon as i got out there, was 2 hours before hunting started so i couldnt shoot anyways. :bhead but other than that i saw 12 turkey, a fox hauling butt through the forest and i saw a HUGE owl, and i mean HUGE owl attacking about 3 crows. i have to say that it woulda been a quiet morning if i hadnt set up in a soy bean field.

I have never liked how dry pheasant tends to be so I'm thinking about brineing one up and smoking it on the grill.. should be yummy!
After cleaning (watching dad clean) his bird, my boy has decided that he will never go deer hunting since the guts are just that much bigger :lol

if you cook it in a chicken broth, it isnt that dry. tastes even better then! as far as gutting a deer, its kinda nice in the middle of the winter. when your hands have been freezing all day and you stick them in to gut it, its nice and warm! :lol

I like to cook pheasant in cream of chicken soup real slow. It's always moist and tender.
Anyway Clerick, the pheasants and quail here are getting gobbled up by hawks and bobcats. The cats we can hunt but the hawks are protected. I'm afraid one day we won't have any and that's a shame because pheasant and quail is my favorite hunting.... besides turkey.

I've always liked pheasant hunting. I like that you can do it walking and don't have to sit in a tree stand or a blind for hours.

I'll make a homemade stuffing and stuff a couple of them, season them and place them into a brown&broil Bag with some veggies seal the bag and cook til a golden brown, the meat is juicy and almost falls off the bone and the veggies taste great. Gutting a Deer or Elk is no biggie, just be careful around the Rear plumbing and scent bag. :lol

+1
As much as I like pheasant for food I'd still argue that a beautiful day, even if I never fire a shot, is a good day hunting.
