skuzzy, i think you commented on this fix to fix (ha) latency before. I am unable to find that thread and ask your thoughts on it. your help is greatly appreciated.

it's the leatrix fix from wow. some people have used it and say it has improved their latency, but I just want to make sure before I install it myself. thanks again

I dont think this is going to do anything but send you a ping value that is half of its actual value. It wont do anything for quality.
Besides that AH uses UDP... right?

Aces High is specifically designed around the default Windows network stack settings. Altering those will usually create more problems than it will solve, for many things.
Latency is a direct result of everything between your computer and the server. All you can change is your computer, wihch is a small percentage of the overall path to/from the servers.
Things like this are akin to changing a steering wheel in a car and then expecting it to run the quarter mile faster.

Try moving voice chat channel to one that has no traffic and stop talking on range to see if your latency issues go away.
I've seen very chatty people have huge lag issues that go away when they shut up.

Some of you may want to determin if the windows default MTU of 1480/1500 is your problem. You may be getting your out bound packets split into multiple parts or corruption needing retransmission. This can contribute to a poor quality of connection and strange things on the internet.
Depending on how you authenticate to your ISP you may need to set your MTU window size to 1478/1492 or some number smaller than 1500. I just recently remembered to set my PC's MTU back to 1492. Much of the strange VOX behavior while listening to other players went away and I'm getting quicker authentication reponse to Aces High. Also I'm shooting mostly non-rubber bullets now.
These links are old information but can give you a place to start. If your router is set to a number lower than 1500, your PC is probably transmiting 1500 or 1480. Or your laptop......

Connection tips I know.
Windows 7 default MTU value is 1500. You can reset this value to another.
Dsl service is usually a PPoE protocol that uses a max MTU of 1492.
Cable service uses a max MTU of 1500.
Dial up modems something less, 576.
You can set the MTU value in your computer, modem and router. It is best that the hardware on your end have the same MTU settings.
ie: 1 computer at home, set computer and modem to same mtu value, depending on isp service type.
Now if you are using multiple computers, and are using a router. You need to set computers and router to same MTU and place the isp service's modem in bridge mode. You can run cmd pings and tracerts but ultimately, unless on dial up, you are either 1492 or 1500 MTU.
Network Interface Card (Nic) in device manager under nic's advanced tab, set to auto negotiate/full duplex.
In modem or router settings, port settings, allow AH to use ports 2000-6000 TCP and UDP both enabled. Make separate entries, 1 for TCP and 1 for UDP.
In windows firewall, Inbound and Outbound rules. Inbound rules, separate the AH entry TCP and UDP, 1 for each. Set ports for 2000-6000 in each rule for TCP or UDP. In outbound rules, make two entries same as the inbound entries, 1 for TCP and 1 for UDP.
Go into virus programs real time protection monitoring and tell it not to scan AH.
I have played with the various tweaks and programs that adjust for gaming. Most do nothing that really helps. Most of what I put up is about taking decision making away from computer and setting hard values. The above did help with rubber bullets a little.

PPPoE is a protocol chosen by the ISP, and can apply to ANY physical medium. Verizon FIOS used PPPoE for the first couple of years, and they no longer use it. Just as an example.

I believe I found the previous thread in question: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,318143.0.html
