Title: Wishlist Forum
Post by: MachFly on October 28, 2011, 03:12:36 PM
Does the wishlist forum actually make a difference on what HTC adds to AH?
Every time they want to know our opinion they make a poll. In the past 6 years I have not seen a update that was bad, sure they were a few bugs here and there but overall HTC makes good decisions. The only reason people here complain about it is because they don't like change, not because the updates are actually bad.
How often does someone bring up a good idea that HTC never though of and it got implemented? Seems like almost never.
I also don't remember the last time I seen a new wish, all of them were wished for thousands of times. But when a completely new topic does come up do the numbers of people saying "+1" & "-1" really matter? If HTC does not like the idea they wont add it, if they like it they will, I really doubt a whole bunch of people saying "+1" will really change their minds.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying we should remove the wishlist forum, because if we do all the wishes would just be in the general discussion forum. I'm just thinking if it's worth the time actually reading thous topic and discussing it, seems like what we say there does not make much of a difference.

What do you guys think?

makes about as much difference as the answers you're going to get...

It's just a discussion. They monitor it all like any part of the forum, and may or may not choose to take your idea, if it works with what they have in mind. They won't respond categorically, and they don't just say "yes, yes, no, yes, no, no" etc.

Think of it as an open forum (no pun intended) for bouncing wishlist ideas off of other community members, with HTC listening.

They HAVE pulled a number of good ideas from the wishlist forum, FYI.

Which one? and how do you know that it's going to be implemented? HTC usually does not give out such information.

I'm actually interested in what you guys have to say.
All the planes that appeared on the poll were ones that ether had active wishlist posts at the time, Or had one within the last 2 months.
So im guessing the wishlist does influence HTC to a point.

I too have had request granted.  You are correct that HTC does not pre-release that information.  You'll see it when it is granted or implemented.

i've seen a few wishes where hitech jumps in the discussion and posts "wish granted, it will be implemented in the next <blah>"...mostly if it's just a programming thing. haven't seen a vehicle or aircraft get done that way.

Your right, I forgot about those. But they are mostly minor.

Can you think of a single aircraft that was not wished for in the past two month (that met the necessarily requirements for AH)?

not sure if I was the first, but I was the last to post that we needed a way to minimize the text box for when  recording with fraps.  a couple of weeks later they got a text box that can be re-sized.

If you leave a post in the Wishlist forum, some will respond in favor to your idea while others will
point out the downside. I like to read both sides and learn from it. I'm sure the staff gets a better
idea of what the players want in the future as well. The polls are a way of making sure they are
going the right direction.

My wish for the list would be to go back to the old style transmission on the gv's. This may be the one addition that made a lot of folks upset. Not because of the "change" but because it's so much harder to turn a gv when coming out of the hanger now with the auto trans. It takes forever to make a turn.

Over the years I've seem many a wish answered in the game. As for a plane, the B29 was a "new wish" at one time, and as far as I know only one person asked for the M-18, well he asked a million times but we got it  :D Some of the arena changes seemed to have been started by a player and tweaked by HTC. I'm sure if you wanted to spend the time you could find a couple dozen things that have been wished for on the boards and are now in the game.

The wish list servers multiple purposes.

1. On occasion players do come up with new ideas we had not thought of before. If they are good ideas, and simple, they are almost always implemented quickly.

2. Other times major changes that we know need to be done are brought back to our attention. The rework of the chat windows was this type of change.

3. Drastic game play suggestions rarely get implemented as requested. But they do on occasion spark ideas to implement a game play idea that is similar to what was suggested.

The pink text for special events to announce when the event is about to run. Implemented about two years ago.

They've also pulled some true stinkers like the Off hours auto #$%#. Careful what you wish for.

That's because we wish for absolutely everything, even an F-22.

No "we" don't.  I've seen many wishes applied to the game that has nothing to do with aircraft or gv's.   ;)

Well that just shows that HTC knows what to add without our help and backs up my point in the OP.

Not sure if it was the same wish, but recently someone posted an idea and Hitech replied that it would be in the next update.

It seems that whats posted here does make a difference and "they" do reply.
