Title: Just a thought...
Post by: Cheese on October 30, 2011, 12:42:34 AM
Since we model engine torque - can we model 'torque from hits'?

FA/Historical had 'Torque modelling from hits" and it was cool to be in a turn fight and hit a con with your cannons and see him shudder, shake and roll when you hit him... and vice versa as well in those 'rare' occasions I got shot...LOL.  Getting hit high on the wing would really flip your plane around.

Don't really even know you are being hit here in AH except for the sounds or if you loose parts or a cooler/radiator.  Just wanted to offer this up for consideration.

Thanks, and have a nice day.

Does the bullet really create enough force to push an aircraft? The change in mass is significantly greater than the change in speed.

That doesn't seem realistic at all. I've seen enough gun cam footage to know unless the wing snapped off, you're not going to bounce around.

Simple physics....

10,000 lb plane

1lb bullet.

I did forget my physics...been almost 30 years...LOL

It wasn't called 'torque from hits' but "moment' from hits...

I would think if I was trying to draw a firing solution while in a hard bank, and I got hit in the wing by a cannon round, that it would destroy my aim and make my plane shudder and wobble.

My point is that the way the damage model is set up now, as long as my wing doesn't fall off, I just keep on flying like nothing happened.

1/4lb bird strike to a 1200lb cessna will MOVE the plane!! And almost make you poop your pants!! :O

Yeah, I was in a helicopter once and this cloud came by and hit us! We litteraly flew 120 mph in the copter! I never want to get hit by a cloud again!!! :cry

The effect would be similar to how much firing your guns does now. I doubt there would be any change in direction that would be visually perceptible.

Well, however there is a way that firing your guns can slow you down. Say you're in an A-10 and you're firing that 30mm for three minutes on flat alt, I bet you'll stall...

Maybe add a little screen shaking for difficulty and a sense of realism?

I know that if I was being shot at in a plane, I'd be ducking in the cockpit, even though I know that probably won't do me any good.  :lol

Or at least be wetting my pants....in that case, can we have a new damage system? Everytime you are shot at, you have to press "P" as fast as you can, if you don't, your cockpit if filled with P.  :D

Good grief haha, that sounds like fun. Before you can open your parachut you have to rapid press P before you P and if you don't you P and you can't open your parachute.....          :ahand

you're speculating viagra, and you shouldn't. even if you had enough ammo to fire the gun that long the plane wouldn't stall. the thrust to weight ratio of the a-10 is more than what the recoil from the 30mm can effect. in ww2 guns that adversely affected the flight of the aircraft were not put into production on the affected aircraft. do some research and you will see.
