Title: Enemy Coast Ahead B-25C Slot Open
Post by: waystin2 on October 31, 2011, 08:46:04 AM
Hello Fellow AH'ers,

I have one slot that has opened in the 98 Squadron flying a B-25C.  I am looking for a pilot that can commit to all of the frames including the test frame.  Here is a link to the rules write-up, dates and times:
http://www.ahevents.org/images/stories/scenarios_images/201111_EnemyCoastAhead/rules.htm (http://www.ahevents.org/images/stories/scenarios_images/201111_EnemyCoastAhead/rules.htm)

If you are interested and can commit, please PM me your ingame name.

I flew with the B-25Cs in Red Star/Krupp Steel. Even with later-war rides hunting us down it was still a blast and we STILL managed to get our job done (sometimes without escort, running, dodging enemies multiple times per sortie!).

In this earlier setting you will have a better chance against the German fighters, but still a great chance to have some fun.

Anybody signing up for the B-25C slot is sure to have a good time! Plus... It's the Mitchell! Who doesn't love that plane??

:aok :lol

I'm not participating in this one, just wanted to add a personal story of how fun they can be in scenarios, for others who are still deciding.

In the B-25C's defense, it's not a sitting duck all the time. It really depends... In the Krupp Steel practice frame my squadron of B-25Cs was low-level and literally ran headlong into an enemy squadron (an entire 12-plane squadron!) of Fw190F-8s!

We wiped them all out with 1 or 2 minor losses!

And, then again, the same thing happened during actual frames and we mostly got wiped out (a few surviving). Same planes, same groups of pilots each side, totally different results.

Ya never know how much you can withstand! I took so much damage from 3 Fw190s in a later frame I had half my parts missing and the fighters went RTB due to LACK OF AMMO! I limped home while me and my dorsal gunner marvelled at our bullet hole count in the airframe.

So don't let Shuffler there scare you off  :devil

The B-25's will play a critical part in this scenario.

Also, Krusty is right, the folks flying them in Red Storm had a blast.

This scenario has a lot more clouds in it than any previous scenario, as well -- the skies are not going to be crystal clear and blue.

There must be one bomber pilot out there who wants some of this glory!  :aok

Here's just one of many times I narrowly escaped in Red Storm (I think I mistakenly called it "Red Star" last time).

Some Fw's chewed on me for a while but must have ran out of gas or ammo, and I slinked away. My gunner had no ammo left when we were done, and it was a VERY tense RTB knowing if anybody spotted me I was done for!

EDIT: Forgive the crappy graphics... At the time I was running minimum settings on an older machine.

Niiiiiice!

Was that me getting the 110 kill in Red Storm/Krupp Steel? I recall the event but can't recall if it was me or the guy flying next to me. There was much jubilation all around after that happened!

Heh, not so much bait as plain-ol'e love for the Mitchell. It really is a fun plane to fly in scenarios. It's not as defended as a B-26 or B-24, but it is quite capable. I believe we hit EVERY target we needed in Red Storm and then some! The bomber war was definitively in our favor. It was the overall stats with fighters, GVs, base captures (part of the scenario) where the real winner was computed, but for our bomber part, we blew "zee german" off the map!

Nice!  Thanks for posting!

Those are from Red Storm/Krupp Steele, Philippine Phandango, and Tunisia:  Dawn of Battle, I think.

The B-25 has been an excellent addition to the game for scenarios!

Here's just one of few times I didn't narrowly escaped in Red Storm.

I nearly signed up for Mitchells again this time around, but ended up gaving in to the Luftwaffe.
