Post by: skorpion on November 01, 2011, 09:37:58 PM

just hope hes alive and out there somewhere. they were in a pretty intense fight in pretty much the middle of nowhere. im sure there going to find him, but my friend is hysterical. you can never be sure with this type of stuff. :salute

I wish him luck.  The sad fact is that the live recovery rate for captured/MIA troops is effectively zero, yet another bit of terrible strangeness for this particular war.

When I was in Iraq I made a promise to myself that if placed in a capture situation, I would not be taken alive.  The live recovery rate in Iraq was exactly ZERO, so there was absolutely no reason to submit to capture.  Fight until the bitter end because they'll never let you live.  And who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and go all gurkha on them, killing everyone who comes your way even when hopelessly outnumbered.

There are some warrants and enlisted guys who might disagree with your stats, especially since they are blinging the POW medal.  Also, there is a Soldier still alive, running around Afghanistan as a prisoner.  I hope they do find him and he will be in my prayers.

While not as informed as you about the situation with being captive, and not sure of the nature of her "capture", but Jessica Lynch made it out.

If he has been captured then you would hope that his being a medic might up the odds of him being alive.
Of course that assumes his captores have at least a shred of humanity.

Are Marine medics armed?

Wasn't she captured by the actual legitimate Iraqi Army?  Which would be different then being captured by Al Qaeda or the Taliban who would most certainly kill you.

Yes.  Lynch was "captured" while Iraq was still a nation state.  The capture situation has completely changed since then.

there are NO Marine medics.  Navy Corpsman are assigned as a "medic" (don't call them that, they are CORPSMAN)...Corpsman and SEALs, the only Squids Marines like..
NEVER piss off your corpsman!

:pray  I would like to relate a story that occured here last week.  A 9 year old autistic boy, got seperated from his father and was lost for close to a week.  Hundreds of volunteers combed the area for days and days turning up no clues and no little boy.  Most folks, while optimistically continuing to help their hopes were dimming day by day to find anything other than a corpse.  Having worked briefly with an autistic youth, I kept my optimism high.  My reasoning was that depending on the severity of his affliction, the boy would likely avoid loud noises or big crowds, instead of the usual rescue victim.  The young boy was found alive but injured from either a fall or from trying to ingest a hard object.

I would say that our hopes and optimisms rest with the determination of the young man to return home and the hearts and minds of those who he may come in contact with.

:pray Chills are running up my spine just commenting on this, but it is about time that we have a good ending to anything happening in that corner of this world.  Our men and women have done an amazing job of providing an opportunity for a brighter future for a generation of Persian Gulf inhabitants, I sincerely pray that Jacob's future is still alive.
