Title: LAGG-3
Post by: Butcher on November 02, 2011, 08:08:55 AM
Was thinking about which ride's would best fill rolls in FSO's and Scenarios (Snapshots as well). I will post other aircraft for example He-111, but I'd like to focus on Operation Barbarossa's need for a russian fighter. While the German's mainly had the Me-109E, F4 and Me-110c, the Russians had the I-16 and LAGG-3 - also for example the Finnish Campaign, would certainly get a boost with the LAGG-3.

Although its nothing pretty, and it won't out turn a 109 or out run it, but its something that fought both the Finnish and German's in the Early War. so thumbs up!  :aok

I would definitely back the LaGG-3 early series.

However, when considering the "might" of the VVS at the beginning of their war, Stalin was a fanatic for numbers -- just numbers, not actual capability.

The vast majority of the VVS when the Germans invaded were obsolete 1930s airframes, most biplanes, and most that weren't biplanes were I-16s.

What we're missing from an early war lineup would include I-15s, I-153s, SB-2s, IL-4s, and so forth.

Very true, however my reasoning with the LAGG-3 over the I-15 is basically both are bi-planes, I feel the LAGG-3 would be voted over both if it came down to it, mainly the LAGG-3 did some 340mph, however it was a horrible handler when it came as a fighter, completely outclassed by everything except the ME-110c.

If I had to add 2 planes in the game right now for Early War, I certainly want the LAGG-3 and the He-111, much as I would love to see the Tupolev SB - I highly doubt it would be out voted over the He-111.

If I had to make 4 choices, then LAGG-3, Mig-3, Tupolev SB, and He-111. All four were critical to early war in russia.
I think after the four get made, we could certainly go even more early war and go for the I-153's, I-15's, Gloster Gladiator, Fiat CR.32 and of course PZL P.7.

I really don't see a Polish campaign ever being done, however this is simply the Early War in russia (1941 to early 1942), I will make a bid for the French Campaign next, I certainly want to see more Early War periods in the game.
