Title: 3 pin connection on cpu fan and 4 pin connection on MB
Post by: Getback on November 02, 2011, 05:10:44 PM: My CPU fan went bad so I went to the store and purchased a new fan but it has a 3 pin connector and my cpu_fan connection on the MB is a 4 pin. Can I connect that to the system fan pin? Any advice is appreciated.

EDIT: If there is no fan hooked up to the CPU fan header then the MB wont boot.

Thanks Challenge! I tested the connection and the 3 pin fit right into. I thought the 4th pin was for variable but I just had to be sure.

Sorry you are correct. If the fan fails the MB should sense it and refuse to boot.

@Getback: What socket are you using?
