Title: LST Land Ship Tank
Post by: DMVIAGRA on November 04, 2011, 05:31:19 AM
I know this is my second or third post of the week, however this may be a nice addition to the game. If we want to get tanks to the beach, what do we need, they can't just float (Well, the Shermans in D-Day did, but it doesn't count).

Introducing the LST, many models have been made, doesn't matter which one we get, somebody propose a model of LST I guess.

But what we will need is a new system, how will we be able to "control" it. This will be quite diffrent from any other piece of the game, we're either going to escort other people to the beach in the LST, or we're going to take ourselves to the beaches. I can see this working but it's going to be quite diffrent, all I know is that the LVT-4 with that tiny cannon will NOT do anything. We need an LST honesly, either that or a troop carrying Higgins.

the LVT-A4's "tiny cannon" does much more than you think. you need to learn how to use it correctly.

if we do get a LST i want one with the 1000+ rockets on it! :t

If this was ever included, here is how I see it being implemented.  One player spawns the LST from a CV group, drives the LST up to the beach and basicaly "runs it aground" similar to your picture above. Only once the LST is grounded on the beach and the bow doors are open, does it then becomes a GV hangar in that spot for a predeterminded amount of time or untill it is destroyed by the enemy.  Once it has taken on the role of a GV hangar then the player who was driving the LST could then end sortie without causing the LST to disappear. I figure a limit of 2 LSTs spawned at one time per CV group.

Just my $.02

I'd like to see the LVT2 be able to haul a jeep like it actually did in WWII.  Inside that jeep there would be 2 gv supplies or 3 troops.

actaully there is a better lvt i dont know why we use the lvt 2 the lvt4(without the howitzer) has 2 50 cals 2 30 cals and armor and could carry jeeps...or in some cases it even had a 20mm

but a differant way to land support for assualts would be nice i think the only thing people are generaly forgetting is these things didint land if the shore line was "hostile"(they are tanker ships not battleships)

but way i see them being used it player ups LST once up people can join the player and pick what tank they want(perked or not) up to about 15-20ppl(that way we dont have a hoard of 150 tanks rolling out of 1 ship) then when the lst makes landfall doors open and ppl flood out and then lst driver can stick around for air support or tower before things get hot

I don't think realism of use should be a determining factor in addition. We do SOOOOO much crazy, half-suicidal stuff with our aircraft and GV's, I don't see how the point in a battle that something was used should be considered.

so when do we not have control of a beach near an airbase? usually CV's flood the beach with LVT's and the defenders normally send a few planes to mow em down. the LST had defensive guns you know.

Could be used as a sneaky way to get some heavy hitting gv's on shore before the cv group is detected, so avoid the whole "need a beach head", and go with "dont up until the LST's get to shore!!!"

LVT-4 Water Buffalo was not able to carry a jeep and not all received armor kits, it was only on some of the British version of the Water Buffalo (Buffalo IV) that carried a 20mm cannon.

5th Paragraph down disagrees with you.

EDIT: 7th paragraph talks about the British "Sea serpent" variant having 2 flamethrowers in place of the usual guns. Interesting.

thats coming from the person who cant do his own research, where i did with the LVT-A4. i bet you didnt know that it can shoot out past icon range and kill about 60% of an uncontrolled city near a tank town with only 50 shots while being 5.1k away. i bet you didnt know you can 1 shot panzers with it. i bet you didnt know that it was used as inderect artillery in the real war.

Acually, i did know this. Half because of the link i posted above your post, and because i read the responses in your topic about the lvt being able to use as artillery. I was just laying out some bait for you to bite. Which you so easily did.

ok so let me get this straight, you knew the LVT-A4 could 1 shot a panzer, shoot over 5.1k distance IN GAME and destroy 60% of a town IN GAME from a real life article? sure. you keep believing that.

Nope, smaller and if you compare you’ll see that LST has much more volume for cargo. LST = Landing ship tank LCT= Landing craft Tank. LCT(R) (which I have wished upon many times) is a LCT with a rocket launching deck modification with 1000 rockets on deck and 5000 below for reload,  said to have power equivalent to 80 light cruisers or 200 destroyers.

Are you aware that you won't ever get a one-hit kill on the Panzer IV when using direct fire? You need to hit the top of the tank IIRC.

Edit: Maybe the rear armor will give you a kill, I can't quite remember

you can get a 1 hit kill in the sides/rear. the top of the tank isnt always the easiest option aswell.

Well, I think I know more WWII history than you do, so that'd be a plus. I dig through archives etc. and find tons of information. If anyone knows more about a WWII flight simulator, I think it's the people that read flight manuals, and dig through archives. I don't dig through flight manuals too often, and I'm not bragging. I do NOT like how you have put yourself upon a pedastal though. I've play IL-2 Sturmovik, Wing of Prey, Wing of Power, Microsoft's Flight Simulator, etc. Again, I'm am not bragging. Also just because somebody is offline doesn't mean they have no right to be on bbs.

so, 8 months isnt enough to learn a game?
you cant even do your own research and have people wipe your arse for you when it comes to stuff like that, not to mention your always begging for attention. (kind of like you are right now)
