Bizarre request...
What if...
You have command of the cv... AND you were to go to the tower as normal... EXCEPT... there happened to be a steering wheel...
But...
That person would be able to command the ship's path manually as if you were driving a vehicle... That way you can manually steer a ship without having to use the clipboard or anything... The path of the ship on the clipboard would update on its own to reflect the new path of the ship!
In short - steering the ship as if you were driving a vehicle... Except only available to the person currently in command of the taskgroup :aok
-
How would this affect someone who wishes to turn the cv for whatever reason? If someone is in command of the CV and in the tower, then maybe no one can turn the cv? But then what if the person in command of cv bugger's off while in tower? No one would be able to do jack? Possible time limit on inactivity for person in command of cv while in tower? Hmm.... :headscratch:
I kind of like the idea because you'd be able to do some slight maneuvering without it causing the CV to come to a near stop to make this adjustment, but I'm sure there are more to it than what I just mentioned.
-
That isn't entirely true...
All they really would have to do is take command of said taskgroup...
yes the general course via clipboard would still work... but this is a an added quirk where you can manually pilot the cv...
manually dodge bombs? manually dodge shore battery fire?
-
I sort of like this but to replace the clip board routing. Imagine you could steer the fleet local to the clip board heading which would be resumed when steering inputs stop. This would make for proper evasives when under attack with out having to re plan the clip board route continually.
-
Exactly...
-
and what if one of the new players drove the cv into the ground? good idea but how would we avoid that?
-
Invisible barrier.

Hit the barrier? Your ship automatically kicks you out of control and assume its own course. Whatever that course may be. A simple straight line away would be fine.
-
Good idea. For me at least it would be easier to dodge bombs and gunfire if I was spinning a wheel instead of clicking on a map.
-
Just wait until the first CV mission is busted by someone who 'accidentally' hits their joystick when they're taking off... I'm sure we'll all be screaming to have it removed. :joystick:

meh you're right - only until a certain warbeast gets to have fun with that (sigh)

Would it be possible to make it so that the CV is only controlable from the bridge and not just from any airfield tower, plane or gv or 8" or 5" gun position. You could still keep the rank system in place but make the person be on the CV in person. Flame on.

I think it would only work if it was from the bridge in either F1 or F3 mode actually it would be from the "helm" which could be accessed via the hanger gunner access graphic. This way the "helm" of all the ships in a group could be so accessed and "occupied".
There is a concern re someone deliberately "spoiling" by manouvering such that AC could not launch. However this exists now.

Why not this: keep the clipboard navigation, BUT have it overridden WHEN you press a certain button while in the bridge to activate bridge steering that-ta way we wouldn't be able to have any misturns and all that nonsense. :D :salute
