Title: Spotlight on Spying
Post by: noTch on November 05, 2011, 10:51:11 AM
I would like to call out a couple of individuals I caught spying in Mid War arena today. It seems that LtPappy, of the(*)~FlYiNg~FuRY~(*), actually changed sides to drive a CV of a fallen port.  Now when asked what his intentions were he logged out.  Later a fellow (*)~FlYiNg~FuRY~(*) squadmate, Tigercat, coincidentally flew to the coordinates of the CV's path. Again when Tigercat's Lancasters were dispatched, a pm was sent to him & he logged out.  I can not testify to the actual correspondence between LtPappy & Tigercat, but I can give  testimony to the fact that LtPappy did change from Bishop to Knight. I also believe he did, in fact, change the course of CV33 from a 100mi NE track to a SE track.

I posted this not as a tattletale, rather as a light on the rampant spying that is going on in some arenas.  I know it seems cute and harmless in a game & it is. It's a flippin game. But let's examine the whole 'sitting across the table from the other guy'.  Is this how your Momma taught you guys to play with others? Honestly, how many of you guys would have stood up and punched these guys if you were face to face?  I have a solution for these two guys, if that is the way you wanna play this game, do it in offline missions.  It is not cute, it is not how it was done in WWII and it will not be tolerated by the masses in Aces High  :devil

If you have the brass to answer, which I hope you do, don't be lame and deny what you did :bhead  Put on your big boy pants and take ownership of your lameness.  While you are at it try not to ever do it again :ahand

Now before we go off on a rant about same squaddies changing sides to give the good fight, that is not what happened here.

ps.  not sure how film would help as it would not show the roster or the squad affiliation.

I knew it might turn into this but was hoping it would be maybe a few more rational posts later. Anyway, you are right  WWII is full of many spy moments, but really, in a video game. If you ask me, it borders on cheating. That ain't cool.  If you are condoning what these guys did, please let us know.  :bolt:

Yes...  we switched sides, jumped into the Japanese carriers and sailed them straight to Midway so we could sink them.   :rofl

i dont care if you're spying to gather information. i do admit he did cross the line by sailing a CV towards the enemy just to have it sunk. but spying on the other team to gather information, that i dont care about. if he had just told his squadie where it was then its ok.

its not like your going to get everyone to stop doing this even if its just a game. people are going to do things to win. cheating is all apart of gaming itself.

to be honest, i dont understand why you guys get worked up about it so much! if its just a game then why care what others do?

WOW!

Yes it's a game, but cheating of any kind is not allowed. I know of a couple people who reported where a CV was on 200 and was muted for weeks because of it. Had the OP filmed it HTC could have taken care of it if they wished.

The Midway plans were uncovered by code breakers, not spies.

I said it in a pm to a friend & I'll say it here. This post is not a statement about spying for a greater good. This is a "turn the light on in the kitchen to make the cockroaches scatter" post.  You wanna pay $15 a month to spy, so be it. Heck have a good time with it. But DANG :x, be the best spy you can be & don't get caught :neener:  I personally hope you choke on the success of spying in a video game, get bored and go do something else so the rest of us can enjoy the game fairly

We have no way to retaliate against spys in here. In real life, spys were often times shot, or put in POW camps, and we can do neither of those here.

Right now, the absolute WORST thing that can happen to a spy is being ineffective because people know you're spying. Asside from that, you stand to lose nothing but you're reputation, which is a VERY weak hold for most people.

Agreed, it's extremely timid and lame, giving the squad in question - the average age must be under 18.

Post by: Traveler on November 05, 2011, 03:59:04 PM
It's actually an interesting part of the game, that people do spy.  Just as there were spys in WWI and WWII.   The problem in AH is that people can spy with little or no punishment.  Unlike their counter parts in WWII that were executed when caught and many were caught.

German spys that came ashore on Long Island, NY,  once found, were executed in the electric chair.  The Germen solders that dressed as GI's at the battle of the bulge were shot along the roadside when captured.

We have no G2 or MP units responsible for fretting out a spy, we don’t use codes or have code breakers from S2.  But if a spy could be positively identified, perhaps that Game ID, could be executed.  The Player could create another ID, and start anew.  0 perks. But the old spy id would be gone, dead, no more.

Perhaps a new element to the game.   A person could chose to become a spy and go ashore in a strange land, with equipment to allow them to spy and provide back information, via a code and if found or located, could be killed.

Of course that works for people that are honest players of a game and not plain ordinary cheaters.  Which is what I think the world of AH is faced with.  People that think rules of fare play do not apply to them and there is nothing that can really be done about that.

Sorry, but if they log off when confronted about spying, they're pretty obviously spying.

Do you imediatly log off when someone asks YOU if you're spying while on a visit to another country?

Also no different than the nit squad in LW that has some multiple accounts and watches the missions (etc.) plan and up and then gets on Skype as squad channel (they wouldn't want any wittnesses, of course) and decimates the formations and has some good laughs doing it.

Ahh well, their $15.  I'm sure they are having a ball.

This is not at all uncommon of the Flying Fairies.

Their concern is rolling bases, to get fields,to change the map, to get their 25 "won the war!" perks.

They have no way to get them otherwise.

But the joke is that you got "in" the thread before its locked. many pictures out there on the internet with that joke.

It's better than you think. This squad actually share each others login information so they can switch to a (currently) non-playing account to find CV's, persons, etc. without having to worry about the country change cooldown.

Here's where typing on the correct channel while trying to grief-track a player across the map all goes horribly wrong;

And here's where they decide that the first sentence of the ToS are not applicable to them

That doesnt suprise me about TJ and Spectre.

Spectre is the bomb&bail of the group. Had him bail on me 3 times simply because i came within 6k of him.

And TJ can never fight a straight up 1v1 battle. If he doesnt have an advantage, he'll run until he finally does.

:old: But it does alert others that the problem exists, is real, and shows an example of how it is done and what to look for.

Yes.  This tells the self-appointed Junior Game Mods what to look for, so they will have the confidence to witch hunt more effectively.  Hooray.

It's better than you think. This squad actually share each others login information so they can switch to a (currently) non-playing account to find CV's, persons, etc. without having to worry about the country change cooldown.

Here's where typing on the correct channel while trying to grief-track a player across the map all goes horribly wrong;

And here's where they decide that the first sentence of the ToS are not applicable to them

I did indeed. i emailed numerous screenies, AHF files and even a link to a private YouTube video which only they (HTC) could access showing the squad flipping sides, flipping accounts and numerous "needle in a haystack" CV discoveries. I CC'd all that into our squad email also. At least 40 people can attest to it being sent.

Nothing was done, therefore it must be ok.

I'll assume that they were going for a map reset, carriers make for an easy bonus base after you take the port.  Midwar base takers aren't really used to opposition.

Sunbat heard that one many a times while sitting on his Uncle Jack Handey's lap at Christmas.  Jack Handey sure did make a curmudgeonly Santa Claus from the stories I have heard.  Turns out Jack Handy has no issue with making a wide eyed child the butt of one of his many mean jokes.  A kid is crying cuz of what Jack said and Jack is crying from laughter from the real knee slapper he just told.  No one was amused except the jerk that was dressed up like Santa Claus.

That's why Sunbat now refers to him as Mean Old Uncle Jack Handey.

Easy short term solution just check the MW arena when the squad in question is there put out a call for head hunters in LW and swarm into the MW arena and pound them and let them know why. Do it every night for a week then tell them do it again and the same thing will happen.

You don't need to be in the FBI when someone's idiot enough to get their shade and their main character screwed up when typing, and then admits on open channel in front of gods and men to violating the Terms of Service on a massive level...

so you have vDALLAS's login info and PW so most likey he has your's, how many other squaddies share login info and accounts?  complete cheesy gameplay if that's the case it is TOS violation. just makes a person wonder how many more people practice the log into my squaddies account to fly as them. no wonder so few do the KOTH or any other 1v1 tourneys.

Yes, that's what I think occasionally, but it's too rampant to let it just waft by you know. If they had a chance I bet they're hide about 8/9 CVS. I kind of know who was doing it, because when I shot him down he pmed me, and said "Jeez, you DMs are going to get beat by the (anon squad), and you're going to be sad because we (anon country) are hiding your CV.".

Everybody knows somebody that PMS you when you shoot him/her down.

Obviously you've never flown a 262 within 25 miles of a CV...  They're ack magnets at 500mph, not sure if there's more ack to cover greater distance at that speed, or if the lead is just more on at high speeds the way the equation for autoack works... but if I near a CV above 3k in a 262 it's instant smokage, if not bloody cockpit before I even realize I'm taking puffy.   :cry
