In all of the time I've messed with this game this is one feature I've never jacked with. Search returns nothing of use. I'd like to use it offline to do a virtual 'walkaround' for a project I'm doing and need some guidance

In arena settings, enable "Tower God's Eye View" to allow you to get into God Mode when you're ready.
Mapping the CM Eye Move functions can be done to any joystick button you want, but to change control modes, I find you need to use the keyboard.
1) Go into Options > Controls > Map Controllers
2) Open the Mode Selection menu, select 'Mode 4' (I don't ever use mode 4 for anything else)
3) Hit the 'Copy Mode 1' button
4) Select a joystick button, set to 'View CM Eye Move Forward'
5) Select a joystick button, set to 'View CM Eye Move Backward'
6) Select a joystick button, set to 'View CM Eye Move Map'(optional)
7) Go to 'Map Keys' and set an available key to select Mode 4. (I set mine to the * on the keypad)
There are other keys you can use, but be careful not to reset one that you use for something else. A "that button is in use. Do you want to remap it" message will pop up if the button you wish to use is already in use.
CM Eye should now work.
Hit F5 from the Tower, then your key to enter Mode 4.
The combination of using your joysticks buttons, your joystick and rudder movements, and your throttle, will move you around in CM Eye. It does take some time getting used to using it..
Your joystick controls pitch and roll.
Your rudder controls yaw.
Your throttle controls how fast you move.
If you don't want to move forward or backward, just have your throttle closed - you still need to use your CM Eye Move button to make the view do anything.

Remember that if you don't set a key to go to Mode 1 you'll be stuck in Mode 4. If you want a button on your joystick to go to Mode 1 from 4 you have to set it in Mode 4. I have all 4 modes set on my CH throttle's top 4 way hat.

I never thought of that, I just hit F1 to get back to default view in the tower, and have mode auto-select when I up a plane or GV so don't specifically "choose" to go back to mode 1.
Just for grins, I recorded (in half-size) some sample footage of me using CM Eye to explore my Canyon terrain. Nothing special, and no sound, but shows you how it looks.

Oh I see, I never use auto select mode.

Good point Mar... I worked around it before dot came in but I'll be setting up mode 4 before too long as I see video editing is going to be something I might be useful at :)
