Title: When pilot is killed, plane should not blow up, but should fall to the ground.

:old: It would be more realistic.

(thanks to CofnCrnr for the idea)

Been around for a while, if I recall

Doesn't it do that?

Only sometimes will it blow up if you hit the tanks or something like that

EDIT: That might be when you bail, now that I think about it.

Personally I rather like the fireball

Krusty is correct.  It was implemented several updates ago.

Hit the cockpits of 3 lancs with my Spit1... each time the lancaster blew up.  the MGs of a Spit1 hitting the cockpits shouldn't make the lanc blow up, right?  Pilot was killed (I showerred the cockpit with MGs), plane should fall from the sky. Perhaps bombers are treated differently than fighters?  :headscratch:

The explosion is the metal bullet reacting with the pilot's corrosive alien brain matter.  It causes quite a volatile explosion like an alkali metal and water.

I think there's a difference between bailing and death, though. I think you will spiral if you bail, but now that I think about it, you might not if you are pilot-killed right away.

In case of formation bombers: The drones will always blow up after a critical hit. There is no "pilot" in the cockpit at all, so they blow up. They will also blow up quickly if you remove a wingtip, they do not wait until they get to the standard *poof* distance from the lead.

Yup. Pilot kill = insta-boom.

Sort of, there is an explosion when the pilot dies, but you will also see his no longer "icon'd" plane fall to the ground.

Not the Lancs or A20 I shot down with my Spit1.  The whole plane explodes on shooting the cockpit.  :headscratch:

I believe he's asking for the plane to spiral down to the ground like it does now when you kill the pilot in a fighter.  I wouldn't mind seeing this. :aok  But I would have to say, I'd like to see an upgrade to what we have now as well.  As is, if you kill the pilot in a plane, the engine stops dead and it goes into a spin with no regards to the position of the plane and/or damage inflicted, IE Wing being shot off and/or tail.  Example: I have killed the pilot in a plane that was in a flat spin.  The moment that happened, the plane just "popped" out of the flat spin and spiraled down, it didn't stay in a flat spin.  It's just eye candy, and I know resources would be best spent on other things, but having more eye candy doesn't hurt, does it? :D

As Lusche said, if you shoot the wing tip off a drone or kill the pilot, it just blows up.  Midway's idea would have the plane spiral down to the ground.  If frame rate is an issue, there could be a check box in the options menu for "death animations", or something like that. :aok

I'm not so sure about there not being a pilot in the drones though.  I've had drones blow up on me later on in my bombing run, with no real damage done from an attacker.  No puffy or ack firing when this happened.  I came to the conclusion that the pilot in the drone was wounded, then died.  I've also had my lead shot out from under me, switch to the next plane only to find the pilot is already wounded.

P.S.: I had to post this afterwards...Kept giving me an 80 character limit.  Something has changed in the last few hours? :headscratch:

EDIT: Oh...dur...  Figured it out.  heh  Wish I did a few moments sooner. :lol

I've actually been experiencing similar problems... normally only after logging in and trying to reply to a response I've linked to from an e-mail notification.  Super wierd, and it'll also return the "Your last post was less than 60 seconds ago" error and others.  Only thing I've found is re-entering the forums, for some reason even clearing cookies didn't help.  But come back in from HTC main page and fine.  Also, it corresponds w/ Internet Explorer upgrade.  Things work better in compatibility mode, but still not great.

(that and maybe the subject line...)

Yeah.  It's the subject line.  I just deleted the text and left the Re: bit.  I didn't notice that the others had just deleted half of the line until after I made the 2nd post, completing my entire post. :o

I think the plane should spiral down allowing a friendly to steal your kill.

bail out in front of the tower then see what happens to your plane while you are in the tower.
