real slick leaving a jurry rigged 5 gallon can of gas suspended by bungie cords above a hot apu while bouncing like a beachball through snow burms 5 feet high and not expecting a fire...
to bad about rick he was the guy who would have made sure somthing like that would not have happened but he worked himself to death.
lots of negative stuff floating about about greenameyer but who can say if its true or not.
he left a hell of a mess for sombody else to clean up after the whole thing went up in smoke.
if he was succesful in flying it out... and he would have been if not so much complacent behavior was going on he would have become a living legend instead of a famous aviator but instead an irreplaceable historic aircraft was destroyed.

WTS: Way To Spoil, Fester :huh *facepalm*

Funny.....nobody else got it started or even attempted to get that plane out in 40 years.

this happened in 1994. a whole book was written about it that has much more detail than the nova documentary.
this video has been posted on this forum multiple times as well.

That whole expedition was a farce from the beginning. Forget about the plane, a man died as an indirect result of Greenamyers lack of planning, inadequate resources and blind ambition.

You seem to really get worked up about this one guy dieing. While unfortunate, people die every day and I'm sure a very large percentage of them are due to someone else. Whether it is poor planning, or just plain stupidity it happens. I'm thinking the guy who died most likely knew what he was getting into and decided to go for it any way.

compared to the glacier girl story, this blows its doors off. i mean come on, these dudes were taxiing a b29 around. yea the guy died, sad story. how many more bombers are there scattered around greenland? and why wasnt this b-29 burried under 200 feet of snow like the p-38s?
