Anyone know why he ejected? and what was the cause of the injury (the ejection itself or did he eject into something)?

According to wiki the Hawk does have a zero-zero ejection seat.  Pure speculation, but the way that tarp is hanging over the front of the plane it looks like maybe the seat went but the canopy didn't?

R.I.P. to the pilot.

It's just been a bad year for aviation... Memphis Belle, the Goodyear blimp, the P-51 at Reno, and now this :(

You mean the Liberty Belle

Don't forget Amanda Franklin, Todd Green, Brian Jensen, and Greg Poe. I know I'm forgetting some, too. This indeed has been a bad year

Also, those are all thing, not people. The Liberty Belle can be replaced, but thankfully everyone made it out ok. The Goodyear Blimp pilot sacrificed himself so his passenger could get out - That guy is a hero. Jimmy Leeward slipped the surly bonds of earth - A great american and pilot. The people who died on the ground also cannot be replaced.

This beautiful writing was taped to the hanger of the Ghost the day after Jimmy's death. We still don't know who the author is but hold it dear to our hearts:
Gentleman Pilot

Two years ago I met you really for the first time,
You and your crew brought to my home airport a legend,
A Ghost.
... But you Sir are the legend, a quiet man, a real gentleman pilot.
I stood aside, watched from afar as your crew worked so hard.
Fell a little short in 09, got there in 2010, but the heavy winds
Who knows, maybe a win.
We lost you today in the Ghost.
You Sir, a quiet man, a real gentleman.
Now Sir you will Dance with Clouds.
09 & 177

That makes my allergies act up

Not really, just this year the news covered more than normally.

This is a list of all the crashed in US (a few out because they were investigated by NTSB), that happened last october. Look at the number of deaths, and that's nothing special.

You'll go crazy thinking about all of them, all you can do as learn from their mistakes.
