Title: Ar234 Take off from CV
Post by: Mak333 on November 09, 2011, 08:20:04 PM
Just curious... does anyone have any footage of Ar234 CV take offs?  Has it been done?

Actually yes.

Reason I ask is because I have footage online as I did it tonight and was wondering if I should post it - Would anyone get any value out of it?  Not that great with the AHfilm viewer unfortunately.

Only way I heard of it being done is with Rato's and one notch flap (assuming you are carrying ords).

That's the thing-- I had no ords, but 75% fuel w/ RATOs.

I'll try to find it over the weekend.

it can be done with 2 notches of flaps, full throttle and RATO's. and if your including the guns+bombs, its not that hard. just add another notch of flaps.

Sadly, you can't rearm unless you manage to turn it around twice.

Turn around?  why?  Just give yourself a notch or two of flaps, and put engines slightly above idle.  The forward motion of the cv should make it go faster than you and you roll backwards.  To stop just cut engines.  Once you stop, you then match speed with the cv again and stay in place.  I like to think of it as the wind over the deck blowning you backwards.  But it works, for whatever reason. For any acft.  Even C47's to reload troops.

Does not work on the jets.

I was able to land, turn around, motor to the rearm pad and turn back around there.

It took off with 3x500kg and 3/4 fuel.

This is what I did as well.  I'll post the video one of these days so others can attempt :)
