Instead of being on top of a flat world, I'd like to also be able to play around a cylinder (think Ms Pac Man).
Here's a rough sketch, each of the 3 colors represents 1 country, every country borders the other 2.

Like a 3-D circle graph? Like in ozkansas?
-
Sorta, more like the 2d we have now but make 2 sides of the square wrap around to each other.
-
Not sure I get this... All countries already border each of the other countries.
-
I think he's saying if you fly off the map instead of going into the twilight that now exists you just phase into the other side of the map...like pac man.
-
Exactly. No hiding CVs on that map.
-
So instead of flying hundreds of miles and taking an hour to get across the map, you just up from a base on your edge, then fly off the map and magically appear on the other side of the map instead? Yeah, that's not gamey...
-
You can already do this, you just have to fly 8 sectors to do it. Its VERY effective for supprise bomber raids, since the enemy doesn't expect you to appear behind their strats.

If the maps were designed with that in mind it wouldn't be. On the current maps it would be.
-
Pfft... dont you know the world is flat! :D

Yeah it could easily work basically all that would have to be done is move the area where the strats are.

He is kidding right?

True, I've done this before, it's fun to do surprise missions like this, just pay attention to the compass....

Lol, I did it once, ended up too far south of my target, and then actually did trig to find the exact angle I need.

reading this thread is like going to a party, then realising after 20mins that your the only one there who hasnt dropped acid.
I'll get my coat :bolt:

like a very deep DA lake?

I'm so confused by this wish.
Does that mean there are layers of bases?
First ring has "X" bases.
You dive down the center of the map, you reach the second ring, which then has "X" bases.
And so on and so on?
Like the rings of hell?

No, think of an Aces High map working like a world map
(http://go.hrw.com/atlas/norm_map/world.gif)
Now just shrink the scale and imagine the Americas are Bish, Europe and Africa are Knight, and Asia and Oceania are Rook.
-
Ah I see.
Would allow for all 3 countries fighting each other at the same time without traveling 10+ sectors on some of the larger maps.
-
Whats Antactica? Dale's house :lol?
We already have this option on several maps, people just don't like to stir up extra touble when things are quiet.
-
:rofl I like the rings of hell idea-- it would make the game feel like Utapau, from Star Wars :x

Now it made me thinking. And this idea aint lost at all.

I like this........... every country has two fronts but the default map has no 3 way battle points................
Put plenty of empty ocean to the north and south........ maps could be island based land based or a mixture of the two
Wierd stuff could also happen......two invading countries could split a third in half............
-
That would be wierd... that last one. If they both launched a kickass assault against the one odd man out, and then fought over the territory they now "share".
-
A way to avoid having it look like you jumped from one side of the map to the other side a la Pacman would be to have the map centered on your plane icon.
-
It could provide for easier maps since to make it totally symmetrical you would only have to lay out half of a country's bases, then mirror it, then make the other 2 identical. No need for country rotation.
The Civilization franchise worlds work the same way, you can only go so far north or south but east to west loops back on itself.
