Title: oh man, here i go again.....
Post by: CAP1 on November 17, 2011, 09:44:56 PM
rephrasing myself here........just an awsome car. horsepower wars all over again.......
http://www.autoblog.com/2011/11/15/2013-ford-shelby-gt500-delivers-650-hp-and-200-mph-straight-from/

 i like this too.....

Of special note is the 2.66 1st gear that, with the 3.31 final drive, will get the GT500 to about 62 mph at 7000 rpm

Cap,

At least this car makes some sense, that other race version is well a track car. This you can drive on the road so has some practicality.

I noticed it didn't give any lap times and the 200mph is a projected speed in 5th gear so whether or not it can do that is still to be seen. Personally I'd like to see an IRS put on the mustang or even a rear transaxel, then they can truly claim it to be a "sports" car.

IRS is nice but when you consider what they have managed to do with that girder back there in terms of handling... I'll save the $$ or, at least make it an option.

no.....one of those said that they've already done 202mph.  before i posted the links, i was googling for nearly 45 minutes looking for lap times. i KNOW they've run the car, and am pretty amazed/annoyed that they're managing to keep the lap times a secret. the only video i can find only shows it going around a couple of bends.

this is intended to be a street car, whereas the other one was intended to be a turnkey race car.

i was talking to one of the service managers at the ford dealer right up the road from my shop. he campaigns their mustang in NMRA. bone stock outta the box, he ran her to a 12.53. minor tune on the 'puter took her into the 11.9's, and drag radials took her into the mid 11's. he said they'll have her in the 10's very soon. he also mentioned that he's had that engine over 7k rpm, with no problems.

pretty amazing.  at least this time i'm old enough to appreciate these horsepower wars. i was too young in the 60's.

It has to go fast to hide "Teh Ugly".

That blue is hideous. Especially on the homeliest Shelby to date.

the biggest thing i don't like about it, is that nose. it resembles a dodge up front now. would i still own one if i could afford? DAM STRAIGHT.  :D

almost forgot...that's called "grabber blue". it was a color option on the boss's back in the 60's. while i don't like it, i don't dislike it either.

now, if you were to look at a grabber orange one.......THAT is a hideous color.

You don't hear much about the Ford GT the same way you do about the Viper/Vette. I Doubt some car fans even know it exists.

The ford GT owns the viper and vette in mile racing.
