How does it have less range if it can hit anywhere in the world in an hour... How much more range does it need? Why would you need more range?

The circumference of the earth at the equator is 24,901.55 miles (40,075.16 kilometers).
So assuming the worst case scenario a target is 20,000 km away. That thing would take around 3 hours 20 mins to get there. So obviously they're counting potential launch positions such as fleets distributed around the world.

They never said what speed the AHW reached, they simply state the minimum for hypersonic is Mach 5. If it got anywhere close to that HTV-2, then anywhere in the world in less than an hour is definitely obtainable.

The sprint missile can accelerate to mach 10 in 5 seconds and intercept something going just as fast.
The current missile system reaches the same speeds but they trade acceleration for longer flight duration.

On August 11, the Pentagon test flew another hypersonic glider dubbed HTV-2, which is capable of flying 27,000 kilometers per hour, but it was a failure.
How does a glider keep up a speed like that???
