Title: web-accessible online squaddies list
Post by: moot on November 21, 2011, 09:00:18 AM
Like most games have nowadays.  A way to check who (squaddies but maybe other friends too) is on from the web.  Ideally... It's so minimalistic that you can check it from a cell phone.

I would not want my gf to check if I'm playing or not when I tell her I'm doing dishes  :furious.

In fact.. This dev for another very old school sim game coaded together an app that even sends you an SMS to let you know someone's online.

I'm not sure the general HTC community is mature enough for such features. As it is we already have people harrassing other people, following them around, using .wingman on them and doing enough griefing as it is.

Without some kind of safeguards it would simply help them in this role.

Make it opt-in.  No visibility unless the player allows it.

That would work  :aok

I don't see myself using it at all, but +1 for a decent idea

The game is much more fun when one can play it with squaddies, than when one plays it by themselves.

Yes.  More so if this tool existed.

the game is also more fun if ah could provide beer coupons.  you gave a generic excuse that nobody will say no to, but not a good excuse for actually having such a thing.  I really dont want people to know I am in the game unless they're also there, it's an issue with privacy.  I dont want anybody that has a bb account but no game account to see if I am logged or not.  you never know who's spying on you  :noid.

this reminds me of the old aol feature where anybody could check to see what you were doing.  if anybody wants to know, let them pay the 15 bucks and log into the game and check.

Since when a good thing needs an excuse?

No such design cue was even implied in OP
Protection from this exploit was addressed couple posts before yours - make it opt-in / make it game subscriber only / etc.
