Yes its that time of the month again! time to request the StuG III Ausf G!
Basic info-
(Sd.Kfz. 142/1; December 1942– April 1945, 7,720 produced, 173 converted from Pz.Kpfw. III chassis): The final and by far the most common of the StuG series. The Ausf. G used the hull of the Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. M. Upper superstructure was widened: welded boxes on either sides were abandoned. This new superstructure design increased its height to 2160mm. Backside wall of the fighting compartment got straightened, and ventilation fan on top of the superstructure was relocated to the back of fighting compartment. From March 1943, driver's periscope was abandoned. From May 1943, side hull skirts (schurzen) were fitted to G models for added armor protection particularly against anti-tank rifles. Side skirts were retro-fitted to some Ausf. F/8 models, as they were be fitted to all front line StuGs and other tanks by June 1943 in preparation for the battle of Kursk. Mountings for side skirts proved inadequate, many were lost in the field. From March 1944, improved mounting was introduced, as a result side skirts are seen more often with late model Ausf G.

It is a legit request/wish seeing as how the StuG III did play a massive role in Germany's panzer divisions. However, I'm not sure if it would be the better choice for introducing a turret-less tank/tank destroyer/assault gun in to the fray. The Su-100 might be a better choice for experimentation purposes. Besides we already have the chassis of the Su-100 in game (T34). The StuG III would have to built ground up, save for the 75mm L/43 gun.

the StuG III wouldnt be that hard, HTC already has a somewhat relative chassis to it (PzIV tank) they would only need to change some things and just slap on the 75mm. the SU-100 would need the turret removed from the T34, new suspension and engine added and they would have to throw the 100mm on it. pretty much the same amount of work as the StuG III Ausf G. both of which are good tanks for the game. i got nothing against it, but i think the StuG should be added first, given its history and the time it entered.

Add the 105mm Howitzer as an option and it might see actual use in the MA as a town killer. Otherwise, up a Panzer IV and don't use the turret.

the 105mm Howitzer was american...whats a german tank doing with a 105mm howitzer from america?
-
105mm Stuh 42 L/28 Assault Gun - replaced the 75mm. HE rounds, higher arc, slower traveling time, more or less an artillery piece.
~1,200 were produced
Range of ~9000 yards.
I can see it's use.

the 105mm StuH 42 didnt replace the 75mm 40 L/43. different variants of the StuG were fitted with them, they produced both variants. neither of those guns replaced the other.
-
So what do you call it when you take out one gun and put another in its *place*?
Different variants? Yea.
Replaced? Yea.
I see no points of having the Stug with just a 75mm, it adds nothing and the Panzer IV does everything it can do and better. The Stuh 42 can actually be a real good town killer/base porker. Better armor, and longer range than the LVT4.
-
Replaced also carries the implication that the 105mm was found to be a superior gun, and so the 75mm versions were either phased out of service, or had production cancled in favor of the 105mm armed version.
Really, it can be taken to mean either, but here, Skorpion took it to mean that you thought the 105mm armed Sturmgeschütz replaced production of the 75mm armed Sturmgeschütz.
Either way +1. But if a proof of concept vehicle is needed beyond the M3 75mm GMC, we could get the SdKfz 251/22. Just an SdKfz 251 with a PaK 40 mounted on top, carried 27 rounds IIRC. Only reason this would be a better demonstration that a limited-traverse AFV could work would be that it has a more powerful anti-tank cannon, capable of effectivly engaging any tank in the game, and its speed is closer to that of the German Jagdpanzers, or Hunting-tanks.

Replace - to take the place of; to substitute; to put back
From dictionary.com
The 105mm L/28 *took the place of* the 75mm.
The Stug III and the Stuh 42 are two *similar* tanks. But are differently armed.
The Stuh 42 did not replace the Stug III.
Did that clear it up for everyone? Jeez Louise.

Not quite. ;) The Stug III is on the Panzer III chassis which is not represented in AH currently in the least bit, it would have to be designed from pixel #1. Like I said in my first post, the *only* thing HTC could bring over would be the 75mm L43 gun (and the MG34 if they model that version), that is it. The Su-100 uses the exact same T34 chassis we currently have in game. HTC could take the tracks, engine, armor, basically the entire lower assembly and put a new upper half on it. They'd have to design the upper half and the 100mm D-10S L/54 gun and *puuf* it is done. There would be far fewer steps for the Su-100 in to play than the StuG III.

The flaw with that is the old T-34/76 model isn't up to standards.
There would be no borrowing anything from it.

Put on a 105mm or a 75mm that isnt on the pz4, and give me a lower silhouette than the panzer 4.
wish still not granted. you need to do your research.

I doubt it. The M18, regardless if Bar's spamming had anything to so with it, offers something to Ah we didnt have previously: a fast moving, hard hitting, lightly armored gv. The StuG III offers nothing... well... nope nothing we currently do not have except a turret-less tank.
I suggested the Su-100 because at least it would have chance to stand up to the bulk of the gv's currently in AH in a 1v1 duel. The StuG III would be very good for scenarios, but otherwise it would be like having a Panzer IV F/2 w/o the turret.

do you know how much of a gap we have in the GV lineup? any GV we can get is whats needed in game. im not against any GV that served in the war and meets criteria being added in here. the SU-100 was late war though, and the midwar lineup is kind of short.
-
I've always wanted to see the STuG in AH, and currently I think it would also plug the widest gap in the German WWII GV set in-game. (+1)

Everyone goes to the Late War Arena. The Stug is an awesome looking tank but it won't get used.
I see the new M-18 in action every night driven by lots of tankers. It is fast and takes ya to the gv action fairly quickly.
my 2 cents,

the only reason people go there is "b3c0z a11 t3h 0b3r p3rk3d r1d3z 4re th3r!"
people need to realize that some earlier stuff could be fun aswell.. :bhead

I see a lot of "won't be used" or "can't beat most tanks in a fight" posts. I think people are VASTLY underestimating the benefit of not only a smaller sillouette, but of a smaller target profile.
1) You can hide in the bushes completly, greatly adding to 'camoflauge'
2) you have the firepower to knock out all but 1 tank (Tiger II) in the game from the front at ranges in excess of 1200yds.
And if time before addition is a big constraint in people's minds (I don't see why it would be, since people are asking for planes that would take longer to model graphicly than most tanks), we could always get a StuG IV. Basicly a StuG III superstructure mounted on a Panzer IV chassis, with improved ammunition capacity.
-
This might also have the added benefit of getting rid of everyone badgering me to shut off my engine if I'm not moving. Kinda frustrating to hear when you're in a panther or tiger...or maybe want to use your tanks mobility to face the enemy. :D

You fail to notice the PanzerF actually gets used more then most tanks and its 40 Eny, decent firepower but no armor - same as the M18.
The PanzerF will take a few hits and only does 25mph, this is the difference between M18 where it can't take hits and does 50+, and of course 1 perk.
By the way, I posted the data on the StuG a while back, Tank-Ace is incorrect as the StuG has no chance against a Panther, Tiger, King Tiger at any range over 200, under 1k for T34/85 (lower hull) and under 1200 for M4a3 (lower hull).
Basically saying unless you are on top of someone, you won't penetrate the front unless you aim for the lower hull, any upper hulls will not be penetrated at any range.
now saying this, our Panzer F with L/43 can penetrate T34 and M4 at 1200 from the front upper hull, not sure how but the data I was looking at suggested otherwise.

You want it you got it, already explained to you once in another thread - I found a third thread on the subject -
Both would be good editions, the StuG IIIG would not be perked and probably 25 eny without being perked, a nice offset would be the Jagdpanzer, a turretless tank destroyer with the 75mm L/70 (same gun on the Panther), however I believe it would be perked, on par with the Firefly but a little cheaper.
Here's some combat information on the Stu.G.III -
It can penetrate a T34/85 front at 700m and Mantle at 100m so forget getting in a shoot out with the T34/85 -
T34/85 Penetrates the Stu mantle at 1100m, DFP 1500m and Nose 1400m
So taking this data I applied the armor from the T34/85 and explained it vs the M4a3(76) in another thread, if you look at the numbers closely
a StuG has to be under 800 to fully penetrate a T34's front armor, unless you manage a lower hull hit which extends out to 1k.
Unless a StuG is under 1000 it has no chance against a T34/85 or M4a3, anything over 1000 needs to be a side shot or rear.
However, a StuG-III will go suitable against a PanzerF, however I can see more people using the Pz4F based on the the turret (unless HTC lowers Pz4F to 30 eny or such).
Here's the thread also, http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,317978.15.html (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,317978.15.html)
can I see your data the Stug penetrates everything up to Tiger 2? would be interesting to compare the German Army's data to wikipedia.

today, i went out and shot at every tank mentioned, all but the Tiger and Panther were penetrable at 1k. either lower hull hits or where the hull and turret meet.
the Pz4F is a good comparison to the StuG because it has the same armor and the same exact gun. the StuG III Ausf G. with either the 105mm or the 75mm would be just fine.
-
Sorry, my mistake, I thought you were accusing me of saying the StuG would be unable to effectivly combat those vehicles at range.
And your numbers are off by the way. Our L'43 gun is rated at 90mm penetration at 2000yds, which means it should be able to engage ALL of those vehicles (save the KT) from beyond 1300yds. T-34 hull only provides about 85mm at line-of-sight thickness, and the M4 only has 95mm at LOS thickness. Lower hull of all vechles with sloped armor is a well known weak spot.
The Panther's turret is 100mm thick, the M4's turret is 63mm thick (with an 85mm gun shield), the T-34's is 90mm thick.
So a StuG armed with the StuK 40 L'43 would be capable of effectivly engaging the panther out to around 1600yds, the M4 to around 1300yds (based on my expierences fighting them in-game with the L'48, and offline with the L'43), and the T-34/85 all the way out to 2000yds.
An L'48 armed StuG would be able to engage the Panther out to just short of 2000yds, the M4 out to about 1600-1700yds, and the T-34 out to (an estimated) 2300yds.
Also the StuG's extra 30mm of armor over the Panzer IV F (StuG III Ausf. G had 80mm, as did the StuG IV) would likely cancel out the extra use the turret would give. IMO, the main reason people drive the Panzer IV F over the Panzer Iv H is that you get an ENY of 35 (I think its 35 anyway), still get the second best gun mounted on a free tank, and you're only slightly easier to kill.

i could give you an example of a Panther being destroyed at 2.2k meters from the front. just give me some time and ill have screenshots soon.

Here you go, killed a panther at almost exactly 1600yds. Could probably do it out to maybe 1800yds, but not sure I'd be able to aim effectivly at that distance, and thats really the limiting factor in a lot of engagments
1600yd panther kill (http://www.mediafire.com/?6sai9z91dd1s88m)
Edit: sorry, my computer is running slowly tonight. Heres the raw film if you want to download and view.

quite interesting, I have never lost my panther beyond 1600 yards to any tank, only from the side or rear.
I don't think I've even had it destroyed from 1200 or 1400 rather.

gv damage modelling works somewhat simmilar as on planes.
after being pinged multiple times, even a panther can became very soft. Once a 76mm sherman got me from like 4.2K away, with "his" first ping. I was hammered badly before, tho, were like 10 panzers and shermans firing at me from 2,5-4k distance, took a time while i could get all of them.
What youre saying, from 1600 or so away, the panther can kill anything with 1, at most 2 pings, they dont have much time to shoot back.
-
Exactly debrody. And with the Panther's 5x zoom, you can't even count on out-shooting him.
But thats where the StuG would have an advantage over a tank. Its low enough that it could probably hide back in the trees, where the Panther can't return fire, because while the StuG's gun is firing from underneath the trees, the Panther's are impacting on them.
