Look...it's time for you guys to start flying. You left, you took your breaks, you've done the wifey lists and all the BS that the rest of us non-squeakers have to do now quit blowin your "oh back when I flew hoo-rah-rah" and your BBS warfare (which is entertaining I might add) and get back in the dam game.
I like reading your posts about how it used to be and when your coming back and why you left but your opinions get more and more hollow as the days go by :salute. You can't make a play and you can't put it any substance behind your BBS comments sitting on the sidelines. Get your butts back in the game.
All of ya....you know who you are. Put your skirts back in the drawer....don't post your reasons why you can't because no one cares. Get back in the dam game girls

But Star Wars: The Old Republic comes out in less than a month...

Is logging in daily without flying an actual sortie sufficient? :noid

No. You logging in without flying means you still have your skirt on

And you sir, are in the top 10 of who this thread is aimed at but I suspect you knew that already. You don't have to be a legend, you just have to show up...because showing up rusty is cool. I'd rather be dead and cool, than alive and uncool. Which one are you?
-
No game can replace this feeling of driving an overpowered WWII prop plane! That's why we eventually all come back.
-
I like skirts. :aok
Then fly with it on...I don't care, just fly. You can't tell me you like reading all this noob BS on the boards everyday not wanna get back in it.
-

Eventually is what I'm talking about. What's always coming but never gets here?
Tomorrow. Tomorrow is today so get your cc's out and get back in the game. I will wear your bellybutton out in the DA if I have to so the rust falls off but all of ya need to quit chirpin on the boards and get back in the fight. Aren't you tired of reading the nonsense?
-

Yes I do. :)
Besides, my scarce AH time is currently completely consumed by the AH stats project. ... and then there is that thing called "real life" I'm currently trying... :uhoh
-
Saber? Karaya? You hear me? These boys figure they own ya....what say you?
-
We tried to make Kazaa come back a few weeks ago, saying that we would kick his ass. He came, kicked our asses, and left us crying :cry

Obviously, except generally I don't think the game has changed much at all. I'm about the last person you'll find reminiscing about the "good old days," because those days are right now for the people who play.
And to be clear, while Aces High is a fantastic game, over a decade of playing anything will burn a person out. I like to talk about it and hang with old friends, but the reason I don't play isn't because I'm afraid that being rusty will tarnish some kind of legacy. I just find other things more fun to play these days, and they require significantly less effort to do well than Aces High.
Color me uncool!

when does AH3 come out again?

Understood....burn out is an issue generally solved when things become a challenge once again. While the game may have changed little and the pilots even less....surely you'll agree if you came back you would find yourself challenged to get to the level you once were if thats even possible? That struggle is where the burnout leaves and the challenge begins.
Things ARE different because the people are different. Come back and find out for yourself...if not...that's obviously cool too but....

Coming from the UK, I hope you meant "kilts" and not skirts because he is talking about men. :)

Pretty sure Ruhrgebiet is not in the UK.

For those of us who have only been around two years or so, what about compiling a fight'n list of the top-20 sticks all-time. Once we get a list of names we could do a weekend bender, maybe over Christmas and have them all show up.
All I know is what I've seen over the past two years. Everything else is Grassy Knoll stuff out of Dallas.

no point, they are usually popularity contests anyway. Who knows how good drex/levi or anyone else of the 'old' was? Could they beat Grizz or Kazaa at their peak, who knows... their peaks will never coincide, so the top 20 is almost impossible.

I was an evil spit dweeb hehe.

Bah. A mere decade. Only lightweights get tired after a decade. :aok
-
A related question, maybe to these ubber sticks. How long did it take you to really reach that ability level? I can sense for most sticks the learning curve never gets out of the shallow end of the pool. For those names mentioned, and our current ubbers...
And any suggestions on getting to the next level?

Top sticks are pushing to the limits and are capable of riding those limits longer and better than the next best guy. Whether you'd put new generation back then, or old guys back here, they'd still be top sticks given about same amount of flying time.
The only difference is that old guard, for most part, has no proper motivation to do it all over again. They've been there and done that, most of them several times.
So, yeah, comparison is possible, but why?

Yikes. It's been 16 years since I first played Air Warrior, but I haven't played Aces High with any regularity since about 2006/2007. I don't get credit for the lost years between then and now, alas.

Hmmm about 2 years in AW3 and then about 8-10 months in AH learning the new-to-me FM and modeling. I flew both FR and RR in AW3. I probably then maintained that for about 3-4 more years in AH before taking a pretty long break, coming back fior a few months and then another fairly long break, and here I am again. <never once did a "go on... without me..." thread> :noid
There are at least two important factors at play, skill and talent (and aggression/willingness). Anyone can obatin skill, not everyone has talent. Those who have both talent and skill... :ahand Without aggression/willingness, you may very well box yourself into one specific ride or role.
I'd say if you're not where you think you should be after at least 3 years-5 years, then you're probably not going to get much better.
-
I fly a small number of sorties each month. Last time I flew was about a week ago. I lost my first ever Mosquito Mk XVI to an Me163B after I bombed the capitol.

You were a mere kid then. Some of us were old when we started. Now that you are old, some of us are ancient! :)

*cough* some more ancient that others.....^^^

The old competitor in me says, "you turds are quitters and to some extent, the real talent may have been the first talents and they still got it but are too prideful to try".
However, I too have gone through bad cases of "the tireds"...tired of fights that last 5 mins...tired of arriving after its over, tired of the same guys (and AKPeppr, TXmom, and WldsBabe notwithstanding), tired of MY same old moves that don't really work too well anymore, tired of running 51's even though I know that in real war they would run till they got an advantage, tired of my stupid same old stick that blows, tired of looking up at 315AM and not understanding how it was just 915PM, tired of listening to the same tards typing their exact same moronic crap on 200 (me included), tired of DAR being taken out by some noob that was dared by a vet because its funny, and tired of F3 in the DA.
HOWEVER, what do you really do for competition in your life anymore? You want your bosses job? You think you can still "play ball"? You dress up in your kids uniform and coach? What does it mean to ya? In here...for a couple of hours every night or so it means everything. You get that from other games? Come on..Xbox? First person shooter games? Tank warfare? Paintball?? Mens freakin kickball? In here, 1 v 1 is really 1 v 1...it means you won or lost...its freakin awesome...for the old and young because the game doesn't care about how old you are or how young you are. It just does its thing.
Competition...fire in your belly and I know some of you don't have it anymore and I can certainly see why with all the years logged in this game and :salute BTW...awesome.
But ask yourself...what do you do for real competition? 14bucks a month to kick the hell out a horde, defend something that you can pretend to feel is yours, yell at that idiot named after some Islands on a map, lie about your greatness, but either way in here...the game doesn't care who you are...it just allows you to compete again...and make some damn good friends...then kill them.
Just do it...you know what would be greatness? For all of ya to come back together...what a freakin furball that would be!! Oh well...

Maybe many are flying under new names. Afterall, if still on the BBS, the interest must be there... eventually that should lead to flight again. :noid

Sadly I had to close my account because I was flying less than an hour a month. Money's pretty tight for me and although I want to keep supporting HTC I just can't afford 15 bucks a month for something I'm not using. I hope to return sometime next summer if things are better and I'm less burned out.

Forgot you were flying under that handle, didn't realize it was you. Either way that F4 was in a real world of hurt.

What happened to SkatSr
He needed an operation on his hands and after that I think he just lost the desire to play anymore. He was getting kind of fed up with things as it were anyway. I really hated to see him go.

But Star Wars: The Old Republic comes out in less than a month...
I was thrilled when I discovered this sort of thing was coming out, but a lot of people are saying it's going to suck. :(

I've been liking it during the time I've spent playing it in closed beta.

been itching to play. havent been able to since I bought a new house months ago.
no internet at new house because I have to many bills to pay even without it. bloody expensive houses.

It was actually better than I thought it would be during the open beta couple of weeks ago. Despite the heavy server load, it was pretty lag free. I found the conversation system fun, and it was hilarious to play as a complete psychopath. Just based on what I saw, it's already way better than Rift.

preordered SWTOR
The Beta is open this week end, game downloaded and all ready :aok
-
Old guys...been there done that and many of the ones that people said could or couldn't beat the other...well its kinda like saying the 1992 Alabama National Championship team defense isn't as good as (insert name here); it just doesn't matter. They were good in their time and they just faded out like we all do. Sometimes the spark gets fired up again and sometimes it just disappears forever.
-
but a lot of people are saying it's going to suck.
I never base my enjoyment of a product, game or idea based on what someone else thinks. Completely irrelevant to me. I like what I like, for my own reasons, and their opinion is pointless. Try the game, if you like it, have fun, if not, no biggie :) Life is full of surprises if you let them happen :D
