I finally found a Brit show that beats Monte Python. My Mom wouldn't let me watch Benny Hill, so can't say on that one. And 'Are you being served?' is funny but not as good.
I've been sick as a dog, school's out for Thanksgiving so today was the day to spend in bed watching TV with my 6-year old. She loves this kids, claymation show "Shaun of the Sheep." Maybe its the cold medicine but the show is just funny! Right up there with Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry.
To my Limey friends, now I understand your love affair with the sheep. It's all making sense to me now.

That show is Hilarious. On par or funnier than Wallace and Gromit.

Look to Canada and Red Green.
Benny Hill was great..... Monty Python the best. :)

Shaun the Sheep is pretty good. The no dialogue makes it easier to watch with talkative kids too.

Never liked Monty Python. Just stare at the screen when the wife puts it on, embarrassed that this is seen as a highlight of British Humour. Aside from one or two funny moments it's just plain idiocy for the most part.
Fawlty Towers though, now there was a show!

What was that British comedian on late night, kinda like a talk show. He was always poking fun at the Scottish, Catholics, and like to say "... in ...Shire, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting Vicar". Dave something...?

"Dad's Army" was always one of my favorites as well as Black Adder and Mr.Bean.

I doubt it was him, but look up the Late Late show with Craig Ferguson. The man is hilarious!

Red Dwarf, Mr. Bean, Father Ted, Black Adder are all awesome. Python was kind of like SNL a lot of the time. The best of Python is some of the best humor ever. The other 90% of their stuff could be painful to watch.
Red Dwarf was funnier early on, then kind of started to get lame. The last season or two were pretty bad.
Wiley.

Again, just not funny. It's the same thing every night. Pull a face, make a double-entendre, talk to a robot, talk to a guest, repeat.
Ferguson also manages to annoy me with his anti-British comments. It's like he's still terribly bitter that he couldn't make it in the UK.

Are you thinking Dave Allen? He is/was Irish.

Red dwarf peaked imo in seasons 3/4/5. Early seasons were funny because they were new and later were funny to the die hard fans.
Blackadder has always been pure genius. The first series was a bit meh, but if you watched the documentary about the series, they all thought so. I'm very glad they stopped at Blackadder goes forth, any more would have seen it slide and would have been a shame.
Can't fault Father Ted, brilliant doesn't quite describe it.
Both seasons of Phoenix nights are brilliant too. Watching Brian Potter going round the roundabout shouting "Pyschic? whats a pyschic?" comedy gold
Shameless has been a recent favourite too, not the US version, that is plain awful

Shameless UK is a great show but it lost a some of it's appeal for me Martin left. Great character!

This is one of my favs from Monty Python
Salad Days (Tennis Anyone)
Hilarious!
Bit of Trivia. The Python Theme Song- Liberty Bell March (Sousa-1893) was used during
changing of Guard. That is until Python started using it for the show.
The crowd would snicker when it was played, so they changed music :rofl

+1 on this - so clever you could paint it brown and call it a weasel.

My dad and I watched Benny Hill together when I was a boy, and we laughed as loud as we could. After that show was over, I watched "Are You Being Served" and developed a liking for the late Wendy Richard. The exchanges between John Inman, Trevor Bannister, and Arthur Brough kept me laughing for days. I still watch AYBS whenever I get a chance.
Monty Python is hard to beat, though. The RAF skit is awesome! :rofl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rKYL0tW-Ek
