Title: Creating an Avatar
Post by: USAF2010 on November 24, 2011, 01:43:08 AM
Hey guys,

Been playing AH for a few years, been on the forum for about a year and half (mostly just reading as you can tell), but ive never really made an avatar because frankly i dont know how.

Could someone please tell me how i could do this quickly and easily with pics i already have saved to my comp?

I just resized a picture to 64x64, that seemed to work. If that doesn't, I'll look into it for you.

Vik...
ok I used gimp for creating or modifying images...
http://www.gimp.org/ (http://www.gimp.org/)

there is plenty of online documentation, google is your friend...

then what I do is I look for images that are close to what I want and I modify them to fit my needs (resize them, merge them with other images etc..).

then I upload them from the profile->account settings menu.

I hope that helps

Based on your forum name alone here's some Googled and resized real quick. If you want something else it's easy to Google any image, take it to MS Paint and crop it the way you want, then resize it so the longest axis is 80 pixels. If you want a gif or something I've heard of some websites that can assemble one for you with little work.

I love my avatar, although the pigs on the wings disapprove of my shennigans.

Once you get them, how do you animate it?

I do them for people from time to time.  I do wish they'd up the filesize though.

If you want an animated one with transition effects you need to keep it to three pics or less.  Transitions eat up a lot of file space.  If you just want something that jumps from pic to pic you can get away with five or six.

I use CS5 to edit the pics and paintshop pro animation shop to make them.  It's really not all that difficult.

PM me if you want me to do one for ya.

If you have Paintshop Pro or Photoshop you can just reduce the color depth without any real loss of quality to get transitions into the file size limits.
