With the advancement of onboard GPU and faster CPU's in ten years time will people still be making their own rigs? :old:
I have a HD6970 and have been looking at £400 i7 pcs which would make my Predator pc look rather dull.

zack, are you theorizing about the built in graphics of those i7 cpus like the i7-2600K / i7-2700k ? meaning those cpu's on processor gpu makes your HD6970 look dull?
that is how it reads to me, Sir...... ( although I am still just waking up and waiting on my coffee )
or are you refering to complete pc builds utilizing i7 processors compared to your current PC with whatever processor but a High End AMD/ATI HD Graphics card ?
I think there will always be those who will go the build your own route verses buying store bought / prebuilt PCs that already come with OS & sometimes bloatware preloaded

I was just looking at cheap pre built rigs and thought about putting my decent card into one of the I7 ones :)
I have a Phenom X4 not black addition 8gig of Ram but on Rise of Flight sometimes they can be a bottle neck in career mode :)

after building my own, I'll never buy a premade one again. by the time you add a video card and no doubtedly a new power supply to the premade you should be well within the ball park of building your own machine right to begin with.

Zack, that's not dangerous or even foolish thinking. After all, if a prebuilt computer has a free pci-e slot for a GPU card, putting one in wouldn't do any harm. In theory, if there's a fitting slot for a component, any component fitting to that slot should work. Theoretically...
But before doing that, remember that a in prebuilt rig the PSU mostly doesn't have the extra power needed for a gaming video card. As Silver said, it's not far from building the whole computer yourself. On the other hand, I've seen some prebuilds costing far less than it's components bought separately. If you're looking at a really tempting bargain, put the specs into this PSU calculator (http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp) to see, if the El Cheapo has the power for your GPU.

Exactly. After tweaking and tweaking my old pre-made machine for years I finally took the plunge and built my own this year. I found it ridiculously easy. If you can run a screwdriver you can build a PC. The amount of money saved it doing it yourself can be better spent on quality components that you'll have total control over. Do some research. Plan your build. Ask questions. Seriously--it's a snap. And I'm more of a wrench turner than a techie but I do have that techie streak. I found the general standardization of PC parts unlike anything else I ever have to deal with anywhere else. This boils it down to the simple question of how much money to spend. There's always a CPU, PSU, card or case that'll fit that ammount. I'll never buy another ready built PC again.

the thing with building your own is that you can have whichever parts you want to serve your needs. if all you do is go to facebook/youtube then it doesnt make sense to spend more than 500 bucks on a stock computer. but if you want to use it for gaming or for editing videos etc then it's best to build your own. it cost me about 250 bucks to upgrade my puter from an e8400 cpu with 4 gigs of ram to a 2500k cpu with 16. after selling my old parts :).
but it is true you get addicted to "upgrading". I put 25 bucks every payday into my paypal account. I got about 500 bucks there and nothing I really need to make my computer faster, but I am still itching to find something to spend it on. last upgrade i did was for around 300 bucks when I added another 465 vc and a monitor. I really dont need to play with 3 monitors but the vc was a steal at only 119, so i couldnt pass it up. and well since I had 2 vc then i bought my 3rd monitor since it was on clearance anyway. I need help guys, really bad :uhoh.

Well, my pricing includes 23% VAT plus travels in about 10 km range. As you may know, cars and gas cost quite a lot more here than over there. Also, as you surely remember, a nice bungalow below palm trees wouldn't be the best choice as for a combined home/office. :cheers:
