Title: COmputer Controlled Xmas Lights
Post by: Sol75 on November 26, 2011, 06:00:46 PM
Anyone have any experience with these?  Want to do ~10,000 light display with lights controlled via my laptop, with MP3 xmas music playing outside.  Got the light strands, and the outdoor speaker, got access to out there for my PC, but now it's time to buy the controller for the strands.  I am  looking at options, and I like the 64 channel unit, since I have about 50 strands, varying from 100 to 600 lights per strand.

Any suggesitons?
Thanks!

Matt

It's a few years old, but still pretty cool. Many use "Light-o-rama" and an exel spreadsheet.
Try www.Neverenoughlights.com for info on hooking up a bazillion lights.
They have a "How to do it" section.

                                                                                                                                                     Oz

I used to build and write programs for mechanical control systems.  I had a few clients who needed me to snag parts for their xmas lights and controllers and it wouldn't be too tough as far as I know.  You're just setting up a bunch of binary outputs to trigger on/off on timers.  You really just need a controller, a stereo and some relays.

Well it was essentialy the same type of thing I was building for them but simple enough for them to do it themselves.  I'd be happy to help if you need a hand writing any logic for it and answering wiring questions.
