I hate the pizza map. Retire the blooming thing and replace it with a map of Grinder's quality. :pray
The current map set we have in the LW arena is becoming stale.
There's barely any variety, HTC I beg of you please give us some more to enjoy flying around.
:salute

Well if your so bored with flying on these maps why don't you try map making for a bit. :aok

The gent who designed Trinity used to be a squad mate. It took him 6 months of part-time (yes, he had a real job as well :devil ) effort to design it and work through the production. Some folks love Trinity; others don't.
I'm with Fugi. Put aside a couple months of your life and come up with something better.
-
For our yearly fee it would be nice to have some professionally made maps from the developers.
If I was to make a map, I'd want royalties for it. ;)
-
Pizza map is one of my favorite maps. I hated to see it go and really hated seeing the map that came up next..

I bet you like it because the country at the bottom right, has the most badly placed uncapturable bases.
That when they are pushed back you can roll your GV into thier strats and pad your score :P

I hate the Grinder map. Can we replace it with more pizza maps :pray

that's one of the problems these days ..... not many are willing to help others without something in it for them....tell me if you did get royalties...would you ensure there is no glitches and fix any found whilst taking a percentage drop on your royalty fee for each complaint made?? and would you be willing to pay for the editor you are given to make these maps???
Unfortuntely...the 'stale' nature of the maps isn't in the age, shape,or size of the maps we have(sure grinder is pretty) it is the age, shape, and size of people within this community (beyond just us BBS warriors)...(oh and silat is pretty) that has caused staleness...and I'm coming from a short time compared to many others who have played this game.....It's all swings and roundabouts my friend..
PS ... I may whinge from time to time...but i'm not going anywhere....I love this game and more importantly...to me...many of the community....so to you all I say....shut up and fight damn it (in the AH arenas that is ) :salute

Show Dolby some respect :old:
He is unhappy and requires our up most consideration in his time of need :old:
In regards to new map it's very green I don't know if this is the reason Dolby is very upset, maybe I don't know :frown:
We all love you Dolby :rofl :rofl  :)
<S>

I wholeheartedly support Dolby's desire to create an AH map based on the rolling green hills and valleys of his homeland in Wales :salute I will gladly pay tuppence a sector

"make the map yourself" is not a valid answer, The game is not free, it should come with updated content regulary.
-
Folks tend to forget about the maps in AvA, SEA and Ranger's offline missions. Give them a try.

The software to make maps is overly complicated and time consuming. The standards for maps aren't apparent or immediately accessible. The folks who have the ability to make maps (Terrain Team) seem to be locked into making maps for Special Events - perminantly.
It should not be the responsibility of the player to keep the game fresh.
I laughed my bellybutton off when I looked up Hitech Creations on Urban Dictionary. Not because the definition was funny but due to it's ironic accuracy.
-
I heard that a bunch of new player-made maps have already been submitted to HTC...so even though, with the monthly cost of the game, it shouldn't be necessary for the community to create content, that has regrettably been the case...
But we can't even get them approved to be added to the rotation!?!? :old:

The thing that cracks me up, is no matter which map is up, there is someone on the text buffer going, 'God this map is crap.' I think that is where the 'build your own' sentiment comes from. If you don't like the current map(s), who better to fulfill your map desires than you?
I've never really understood the 'this map is crap' mentality. There are bases, there is sky above those bases. That sky is filled with airplanes both friend and foe. What more is needed?

Some maps do support certain play styles or combat options less than others. For example trinity fresh up can make it difficult to actually "fill up the sky with airplanes both friend and foe"
But while all maps will get both "it sucks" and "it's great" comments, there is one single map that would even empty out LWO and making everyone go LWB each and every time. ;)

Anyone can make maps - it's not just those on the "terrain team".
How many other games thrive on player mods to keep them fresh? Lots.

How many can you list that also charge a monthly fee?

:salute i like the varity of maps we have. i like some better than others. but we do need a desert and snowy maps. after all we do have the snow and desert skins. why not match the maps with the skins? :aok

There are developer made terrains. Many are made by HTC faithful. If you want to help great. If you just want to complain... well your just at the mercy of everyone else.

The trinity point I will grant you. Fresh up, it takes a bit to get going. I don't know which map you're talking about in the second part, but ok.
IMO they really should take a good look at the maps and possibly create some new ones. I assume it's easier for a map to get stale if one GVs a lot. I don't, so maybe that's why the map has a minimal effect on me.
I wonder if GVing has become more popular the last little while, and if that has impacted more peoples' perceptions of the maps and the game in general. From the ground, the terrains are awfully simplistic, and with the increase in GV centric play (my perception, maybe I'm wrong) I think maybe the terrains need to be looked at with more of a focus of making the game better for GVs.
I don't really have a horse in this race. I fly to shoot down other planes, I'm somewhat of an altmonkey, and I don't really care about the ground war other than hoping the enemy will send bombers into my sector. Due to this style of play, my gaming experience is probably the least terrain dependent out of all possible scenarios. Maybe that skews my perspective a bit.

can you name a few of those pay per month games where players make maps for the game owners? im not talking about PC games that are free to play once you purchase the game, most have a development teams that do there updated maps in house. if i could draw a map to there specs, and i have tried but its just to confusing for me I'm not a trained game designer and besides my time is money just like there's is.
-

Your not making maps for the owners.... your making them for the community which includes yourself.
I used to make H2H terrains. That is nothing compared to the very time consuming MA terrains. I don't complain about the terains because I know what goes into them. If I had a problem with them I'd make one.
-

Ok but the owners get the FULL benefit from it, in dollars.

They make the same money if you make a terrain or not. They don't sell terrains.
The fight is among people. The terrain is just there to keep us from all falling in the water. :)
-
would i fly on one terrain, most likely not, don't get me wrong i love this game, i haven't flown but no more than 1 hour 20 Min's this month i have already payed for next month but wont be flying, who knows when i will feel that excitement to fly again but i whole heatedly continue in paying wither i fly or not, I support the game and it's owners if not i would of just canceled my account. :) if i knew there was something ( maybe a month or two free) i would dedicate myself to building a map, like Ive said everyones time is worth something IMO.
-

I disagree with this - online multiplayer shooters live or die by their maps. better maps = more subscribers = more profit.

As long as a map has plenty of sky to fly in who cares ?
oh yeah , the winz teh warz guys

Now what? ;)

The first line of the "Terms of Services" contract we ALL agree to when we install the game says... "The HiTech Creations Service provides you access to the multiplayer game Aces High™ and their associated message board.". No place does it mention upgrades or updates of anything in the game at any time. All updates are bonuses, and and shouldn't be expected, but appreciated for what they are.
You all sound like a bunch of whiney spoiled brats. Coming from a game that when the map was won it was reset with the same map, I appreciate the many maps we do have. On top of that while there are a number of maps I don't "love" I would NEVER talk down about ANY map! A lot of personal and free time was used by players like you and I to try and help the game be better, different,or more exciting. It's like someone giving you $1000 and you yelling and screaming at him because he didn't give you $2000.
You don't like the maps LEAVE ! I very much doubt that you will. You want a new map, BUILD IT YOUR SELF, or pay one of the guys who do build maps subscription for a few months. Personally I would rather see HTC continue to work on new planes and GVs and maybe a better game system with working strats, all of which only HTC CAN work on.

Making maps is for nerds.
-
Love the Pizza map. Great fights in the canyons! :aok
Grinder is beautiful but the whole middle of the map is unused, forcing even more hordeage (if such a thing is possible ;)) into three small areas.
I think the intended effect of carrier wars in the center (if that was the intent - only my guess) never panned out. Probably because those ports can't be taken.
Trinity sucks until one side gets steamrolled a bit. Those huge mountains are a drag to climb over, so everybody waits for the other side to come.
And many times, one side has its entire force at one fight: because of the distance to go over water and/or "Himalayan" mountains to climb.
Not a fan of ND Isles (too few options) and the bigger version of it is a yawner: just all sneaky horde stuff against empty bases.
All the maps have some good spots to fight in but there will never be a perfect map for everyone. My squaddie, Haxxor sent in a MA map quite some time ago and the status of it is unknown. I've got one over halfway done that I'm hoping to finish this winter. Who knows if it will meet HTC approval and if it does, it can be guaranteed to generate "I HATE THIS FREAKIN' MAP! WE NEED NEW MAPS!" whines, like all the rest. It will have canyons though, lots and lots of canyons. :bolt:

You do realize that a new strat system would probably require new maps to function correctly?

it seems like we DO get updated content rather regularly. it may not be the stuff you wanted updated, be we we do get new stuff quite a bit. ill take new planes and tanks over new maps any day of the week. and since it is players that make the maps, the answer "try making a map yourself" is a totally valid response. my $0.02 :salute
-
Can we please replace the Pizza map and replace with the same map except call it Vegetable? :devil
-

But why is this the case?
Another hanger-queen or another map? I respect you position but a new map's shine would take a lot longer to rub off, I believe.
Honestly, I play a myriad of online games. Some are F2P others like this are subscription. All are PvP. This is the only one that expects it's customers to do so much of the work themselves.
