Title: 1984
Post by: MaSonZ on November 30, 2011, 05:13:11 PM
in english class im writing a paper. my choice is George Orwells novel 1984 and comparing it to todays society. theres an economics teacher and a politics teacher and a obviously history teachers along with english teachers i can consult, but thats only a few sources to get educated answers on with the book and comparing it to present. there are so many things to discuss in it it is going to be a challenege getting enough information from them and my brain to write a concrete paper about it. my question for those of that have read it is this: how do you feel our current society fits in with the book, meaning does our society resemble that which was depicted in the book? now society clearly doesnt resemble it 100% but there are many things, i feel, that resemble society in the book. do you agree, disagree, why or why not? also, do you feel if we as a society and (in my case) the future leaders of the nation have to be careful we dont slip into a society as such depicted in the book? Why or why not?

Your questions sound like your teacher wrote them.

As for 1984...I hate homework.  :bolt:

1984?

I was 20 / 21 that year... As I recall it was the most fantastic year I barely remember

Agree with Lusche and Nypsy.    Also, if we provide commentary then "your paper" becomes "our paper".    I have read this book a few times and it is a great read.

i would take some ideas, provide my feedback to your thoughts and incorporate them into the paper. i have a good thoughts about what im saying, but i dont feel as if my thoughts will do the subject justice to all that there is in the book. its like conducting an interview on someone. take the info, mix it in with yours. yes, you will get credit for providing info as i need work cited pages.

The purpose of this paper is not incorporate someones' ideas into your work, the TRUE purpose of this paper is for you to analyze, compare, and fabricate your OWN ideas. Original thinking! If you receive help from everyone all the time, then you never develop the necessary skill to come up with ideas on your own. Think man! THINK!

Not really, that's like saying asking a teacher turns "his" paper into "his teacher's" paper.
He's asking for info and our opinions, not for us to write his essay.  :aok

thank you for understanding. we've all been through school and had to write papers. if the point of the paper was to pull out of butt i wouldnt have come here seeking thoughts and opinons. clearly being smart tulips about things is in societys norms, if only the book had a major part about societys smart tulips in it  :bhead.

sorry i came seeking others thoughts and opinons to add to a paper to give me ideas for it. and then society wonders why the future leaders could care less about the future.

Agreed, if after reading this book you don't have enough ideas and arguments to fill your space I would be very suprised.

This might seem like a silly question, but since others have mentioned to the original poster that it was worth the read. It begs me to ask: Has the Original poster even read the book? Seems kind of silly to have an assignment like this and not have read the book.

Which was the exact crux of my post.   From reading the OP, it hasn't been read by him.    Because if he had, this thread would not have been started.    If you have read that book, you will not need anyone else's take on it.    You should have "excess" in the amount of pages.

The Detroit Tigers won the World Series.  I was at game 4.  I wish the Tigers would have swept, but they ended up winning in 5.

I did not read the book,
I did graduate in 1984 and the 80's,well the music speaks for itself. :rock
I never imagined then that we would live like we do today ,plugged into the internet like we are.
gun fights at schools, drugs that literally make your skin melt, shoppers that kill eachother for a deal on an "IPOD" one day a year.
