Steam

Add AH to steam would get more exposer for game. It would make it easier for other people to find this game thus making hitech more money so we can have more planes

I'm a fan of STEAM. I don't think AH should be on it.
A bunch of exposure isn't a good thing, unless it's the right kind of exposure and aimed at the right audience.
AH has a somewhat selective audience, that of WW2 aviation and history fanatics that want to fly simulators. The average uninitiated STEAM user woulndn't fit this bill.
Plus, Steam has to integrate all the games into their service. That would take it out of HTC's hands. This is one game that benefits from not having the slow-down of the STEAM middle-man.

Great Idea, put Aces High on Steam and get swarmed by Battlefield 3 dweebs wanting Sidewinders and Amraam missiles.
I would say its a good idea regardless, any new bodies are new bodies, whether they last or not is the question.

It's a rather big pain in the bellybutton to get a game on Steam, a lot of work is involved and there isn't any guarantee that it will lead to an increase in subscriptions.

and if those people saybad things about the game because they didnt get what they wanted butch? that means even less players than we could have had

Steam typically has a delay for the steam version when game updates are released which would be a problem for a game updated as frequently as Aces High.

Only for single player games is there sometimes a delay in receiving patches, MMOs are updated with the regular client.

Not that I've noticed. Anything going through steam has to pass through the steam validation process internally. That goes for any number of games. I've noticed from games ranging from BF:BC2 to IL2:1946. There's always a lag because they're not just distributing it. They're running it through the steam exe with special parameters in most cases I can recall.
-
I think Ack-Acks point is that the update is delayed until it can be released at the same time for both versions.

Sorry, should have been more clear on what I meant by a single player game. Games like BF3, CoD are single player games with a multiplayer component, they aren't MMO games and Steam treats these updates differently. Games like BF3 and CoD are updated through the Steam client, meaning EA and Activision sends Valve the update and then Valve has to incorporate the update into Steam. This is why you can't use updates from the box version with the Steam version and vice versa and why it sometimes takes longer for game updates to arrive for Steam games. However, with MMO games like Rift, while the game is launched through Steam, the regular game client patcher does the updating, not Steam. This means AH wouldn't need to use Steam to update the game as it would update when the player logged into AH and update regularly.

I run Aces High on Steam anyway, but I don't think it would be wise to advertise through steam. Also, Krusty is right about the Steam 'middle-man' bit. HTC would make less profit having to pay steam part of their money, thus making us pay more.

The REAL annoying bit about Steam is you have to log into your Steam account to play ANYTHING you get from Steam. So if you internet were to crap out and you wanted to just mess around offline, you're effed. Unless there is something I'm missing... :headscratch:

The first time you run the game you need to be online, otherwise in your Steam settings you can set it for offline mode.

Thanks Ack-Ack, I never played an MMO on Steam, I didn't realize they were treated differently.

They also used:
'its' instead of 'it's'
'herd' instead of 'heard'
'Ace's' instead of 'Aces'
and 'a 2 weeks free' rather than 'free 2 week trial' OR '2 week free trial'
Just saying. :D

if its exposure you want, then no better the place then the wonderful world of television of course this would cost quite o'bit of green, but it would pay for itself. :lol
