Title: A song that grabbed me
Post by: USRanger on December 05, 2011, 10:14:02 PM
I listen to all sorts of music, almost any genre, depending on the mood I'm in, or what's going on in my life.  Earlier, I ran across a song on Youtube that I've heard before on the radio, but it didn't "hook" me until tonight.  My close AH friends know that the last couple years have been pretty devastating for me, personal life-wise.  I don't know, something about this song just started making me think of her as I let the memories & tears flow.  I ended up listening to it on repeat quite a few times (missing my AH time).  Just one of those nights I guess.  My ex-wife, mother of my children, is about to remarry and I think I just got caught with my guard down tonight.

Here's the link to the song.  It's Adele's "Someone Like You"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAc83CF8Ejk&feature=artist

Anyone else man enough to post a song that turns them to mush due to life experiences?

My dad worked pretty much up until the day he died. He never got to enjoy retirement. I miss him dearly. He died 5 years ago and I still cry thinking about him and I'm a 29 year old father myself.

I don't know what gets me about this song. It makes me think of how fast the last couple years have gone, and how soon I'll be on my own. I also want this song played at my funeral.

I would also like to Thank Dichotomy for having that link in his Signature as well. Our lost Friends and Family are not forgotten.
That particular page has gotten a very large spike in visitors since the day he added that link.

It's hard to explain, and the style I know doesn't go with hardly anyone here on the board,
but here it is anyway.

I don't have any particular songs that turn me to mush regularly.  Of course suffering from depression of varying degrees couple days a week it's one of those that a song can cause that effect.  I can't watch very much of that vid dicho as it pretty wells guts me quickly.

Something about this season (autumn/fall) seems to draw me towards melancholy music, I just eat it up.

There's a band called Dawes that's sort of been on the up and coming list for a couple years now.  I saw them last year after their first album came out and they put on a hell of a show, some serious performance chops.

This is the last song off the their new/2nd album and it just kills me.

Quote
With his back against the San Francisco traffic
On the bridges side that faces towards the jail
Setting out to join a demographic
He hoists his first leg up over the rail

Two years ago one of my favorite musicians put music to a documentary on Jack Kerouac's "Big Sur" which is one of my favorite books.

Quote
This river of road,
It don't flow like it used to.
But it's more of a home Than anywhere that I've ridden it to.

We used to dream together
But now I drink alone.
From the bottle to the tumbler Is the only journey left I know.

I could probably go on, the 'ol music catalog is full of songs that can just cut through you if you're in the mood. :)

Reminds me so much of my dad, didn't grow up with him, saw him 1 day before he passed after 23 years apart.

Fathers, no matter what, don't ever think for a second your children do not love and remember you, even if they spend a life time away from you.

What kind of man would i have been with him in my life, doesn't matter..i am a simple kind of man. ;)

But if you do have family still, don't pass up today to let them know how much you love and appreciate them. They need to hear it just like YOU need to say it, pick up that phone, or pay a visit.

After 23 years, i kissed a corpse on his for head and layed my american flag on his chest, and said good bye to the man i owe my very existence too, even if he never really knew me.

Either way ya gotta keep $%^&in' rockin' on.  :rock

Guys its that time of year. Holidays can be a depressing time as so many folks remember those that arent there with them. Please remember to focus on the positive aspects of your lives and those around you. Dont get swept up in the down times. Take steps to ward off those holiday blues. Attend a church service if your into that. Do a good deed for someone in need of help. Make somene feel as if they have a guardian angel on the planet just for them. Above all else remember if you feel down and out there is always someone in a worse situation than yourself. Consider yourself fortunate and move ahead........

Well, I haven't lived yet, so I cannot say from experience.

But there is one person who I can honestly say I love to death, she is my best friend and yeah, but you know, in too late. She has had one hell of a time in her life but she keeps kicking and I honestly do not know how she does it. But I think of her if I hear this song (and in advance I was a fan when I was young)

I am sacrificing my manliness here... but yeah.

When my friend killed himself in october, i was pretty much on the edge of the cliff. didnt know what to do, spiraled into depression, and eventually raged out on a few junkyard cars and realized that it wasnt the end of the world. i just needed to get rid of something that was inside me, yeah im still pretty sad about the loss, but i'll move on.

this song made me realize that i gotta accept it.

No song for me it's just this time of the year. My wife was diagnosed with cancer on Christmas Eve 2009 so now every Christmas is special to us, and yes we did get rid of the doctor that called the house at around noon on Christmas Eve to say "Hey I got the results back and it's cancer."

Amazing Grace is a hard one for me to sit through, especially if the song is being played on bagpipes at a funeral.  Guaranteed to get a tear from me.

Butterfly Kisses is going to be my downfall if/when my little girl ever marries off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FyjKQvWKw8

Ozzy's "Life Wont Wait" hits home for me, not because I used drugs, drank heavily, or fought with wifey (did none of them), but rather to not let life pass me by, make the most of it while I can. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAh_SCjCh8A&feature=BFa&list=FLVNDcR9nmGPsj4ubY0feQjA&lf=mh_lolz

There are a few other than make me take a deep breath when I hear them.

Text:
I have it not what I thought at first because your brother on the phone says.
You have had with your brand new car has a serious accident,
for which nobody has an explanation.
Three days later you were death.

On the way home you were completely sober and alone in the car.
The road was dry and no oncoming traffic for miles around except the tree.
You have sighted in straight,
I can only hope you have not felt more

I saw you life,
so much life that I never forget it.
You were one of those that can do this:
Life without compromise!

It was long ago that we were together and I've never regretted it.
I was young and bored and understood ,
You need other people.
You said my life makes you tired
such an accident does not fit to You

I saw you life,
so much life that I never forget it.
You were one of those that can do this:
Life without compromise! "

You've had everything you wanted,
Your life was beautiful.
There was money, a good marriage,
It was clear you can even talk to each other.
A sweet daughter was 4 years old,
I figure it was not what really

Too many to list Ranger depending on the mood.

I'm here if you need to talk brother <S>

thats about it. Different songs have diferent meanings depending on time or mood.
I can see how that song might have an effect. Think most of us have been there at one time or another..

For me I used to love this song but I havent been able to listen to this song since my sons  went away for his first day at college. He's 23 now and living back at home. But its still hard to listen to. Just reminds you of how little time you have with your kids...as kids.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUwjNBjqR-c

After my best friend died it was hard to hear this corny old tune. We liked it when we kids and being best friends since we were "9 or 10" the words just fit us. To this day certain phrases in it bring me back to specific times

Ok. Here is one that gets me each time every time.
Its the song that I have danced with my daughter to since our "dancing" was nothing more then my carrying her around the floor.
It will also be the song I dance with her to if and when she gets married.
