Through the front door, miss the window, off the roof, one hop in the street, hit the window...nothin but dash.

I saw this earlier. Funny story :rofl

Glad nobody was hurt in this little mishap. I wonder if any video will ever surface from this....

Only because nobody was hurt do I find this amusing...

Given the number of people who are probably on staff with that show that dabble in 'physics', you'd think they would have considered the backstop for something like this.

Also, isn't there something somewhere that says something to the effect of 'be sure of your target and beyond'?  I recall reading that somewhere...

I would totally be ebaying anything that cannonball hit though.

Wiley.

Geez things like this happen from time to time...even at normal every day rifle ranges accidents happen and backstops don't always stop a round from ricocheting off something and going somewhere.

The safety berm launched the canon ball which traveled over 700 yards.

You ought to read the articles about it. That is discussed, however they may have elevated the barrel to load. In any case it was an unintentional discharge.

I seriously doubt we'll see the situation on the show given the time needed for the multitude of law suits they are going to get. It does fit Adam's saying, "failure is always an option".

Ah.  I hadn't seen it was an accidental discharge.  In that case, double lucky nobody was hurt.

I tossed a 500lb LGB about a mile past the range fence once, luckily it was into an uninhabited canyon area.  I also saw the hud tapes from a 4-ship of F-15Es that dropped a total of 24 500lb high-drag mk-82s about 2 miles short, barely making it inside the range boundary fence.  We live/breath ballistics, and still make the occasional hideous mistake.  So it doesn't surprise me that mythbusters eventually lobbed something off the range.

Do you think the insurance companies will buy this?

'Hello how may I help with your claim?'
'Yes, a cannonball smashed my truck'
'.......'

I pity these people when they try to make a claim  :D

We had the travel trailer sitting on a campsite on the Guadalupe River one time with the door open. A bird flew in crashed into the other side, got up and flew out. I'm sure he was going WTF I was chasing a bug and got whacked.

I'd imagine that a company with a net profit of over $700m/year is just going to buy them a nice new one with a little extra stfu money on the side.

Keep in mind that Camp Parks (now a Guard and Reserve training area, primarily classroom style training) is a very very small military reservation that has had urban developments grow up around it. From having been there it is entirely plausible that a 2000+ meter range weapon could be fired in almost any direction from the range areas and land off reservation in either housing or the big jail complex.

Look the place up on google earth or google maps and see the sat pix.

All ranges have been shut down for some time. Quite awhile back a bullet lodged into a house. All ranges were shut down even though they never found where the bullet came from.

I do laugh at the folks who build a home next to ranges or airports then complain about noise.

I hate the lawsuit mentality...

On a practical level though, it sounds to me like the berm's geometry was too shallow if a projectile can skip up and over it.  I know full well projectiles do really funny stuff sometimes, but it would seem to me a backstop that's shallow enough to launch a projectile like that isn't ideal to catch something that is both that large and spherical.

If the barrel is elevated too high you can shoot a cannon over a mountain. Yes I know from real world experiance. Lots of "stuff" went beyond the range, installation and a few other arbitrary lines on a map. Nope I ain't gonna say more even if the statute of limitations is long gone.

Oh heckyeah, but the impression I've gotten from reading and the couple pics I've seen is it was elevated just a bit too much and skipped off the berm after striking it.  All I'm saying is, I wouldn't feel comfortable firing a cannon (heck, now that I think about it, even a rifle) at a gentle, sloping berm with a town behind it.  It should've been at or near vertical to effectively trap the projectile.

Hindsight and all, but it would seem to me that would be a reasonable precaution to take and someone should have noticed.

Ah well, the lawyers get another ivory backscratcher, the homeowner wins the personal damages and emotional suffering lottery, and nobody was hurt.  That's the main thing.

While Adam and Jamie dont particularly impress me either.
I Had a feeling it was the three children that were playing and did the screw up.

Though if I were one of the owners who suffered damage. I'd insist they air the footage
