I wanted to give the new kill message system some time befor commenting. IMO its taken some of the fun out of the game. Its to impersonal. If you have an old enama and you kill him. Its more fun if other people know it. If you are a newbie, and you kill WD, torque, or just someone you think is good. You want the message to do your braggin for you. Same thing if someone is giveing you a hard time on the open channel. You want people to know you spanked him. I think the increase in negetive text on the open channel is due the the fact that you cant "let your guns do your talkin for you" anymore.

After the game went pay, I was just starting to get a sense of the cummunity. Of who was doing what to who. Now its just numbers. Boreing

I agree with you TT.  It would be interesting to see if the trash talking would subside some if the name of the person that you shot down was displayed again.  I like the addition of the squad name, but would like everyone to see how many times I get shot down  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Hmmmm, I thought the trash talk had died some since the new "Victory" Message. Doesnt make much diff to me, The person who shot me down knows who they got, or vise versa. And thats all that really counts, If the Ego needs a boost, I'll just pretend I'm the Man my dog thinks I am   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Agreed JimBear, seems like a lot less garbage on open. We still have a few going strong on open, but they are no better/worses at it than they were before the kill message change.

I think trash talk has diminished some.  Both from the killer and the victim.  I like the new system better because of it.

The most important way I can look at this issue is as a trainer who's job it is to help new pilots get into the AH community.  One of the hardest things to do is to overcome the "shame" factor inherent in being a newbie in an online sim like this.  Folks who are new to the massively multiplayer world are not used to getting their tulips handed to them repeatedly when they start playing a new game.  Anything that diminishes that part of the game, without taking away from the "glory" part when we win significantly, is a good thing in my book.  The new kill messages do this.

It's more important that the newbies feel as comfortable as possible when they start out than it is for the vets to have their victim's name announced.  Sure, its a trade-off to a certain extent, but it is a smart one in my opinion, and good for the AH community in the long run.  If you really want everybody to know who you killed, you can always just announce it yourself.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  If you are sly about it, you can always do it by congrajulating (sp?  I can't spell (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)) whoever it was on a good fight. <G>

MY P-47 is a pretty good ship
And she took a round coming cross the Channel last trip
I was thinking 'bout my baby and letting her rip
Always got me through so far
Well they can ship me all over this great big world
But I'll never find nothing like my North End girl
I'm taking her home with me one day, sir
Soon as we win this war

I like the addition of the squad, but when I kill a uber pilot like hangtime or ripsnort I want everybody to know that I bested them.  Call it vanity I guess  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)

I am gracious when I lose. I always congratulate the pilot on a good kill on open channel 1. Tonight I congratulated Coyote on a HO kill even though I thought it was lame. I have trouble distinguishing when I am closing on someone fast and when he's flying right at me because I fly at the structural limits of the plane alot (ie real fast) and I cannot tell the aspect of the plane. Maybe it's my gfx card but there's a weird shadow under the plane when it turns.

Coyote was being a jerk about it, saying "I know." when I said "Good kill." So... I insulted his mother. ;-)

No hard feelings Coyote. If you're a vet you can do whatever you want, but vulching helpness newbies doesn't accomplish anything. Your squadron gets in the buffer and I think you should be happy with that.

Anyhow, I agree with Leph. The killer gets to know who he killed, and the killed knows who got him. What gets shared from there is a measure of the pilot.

What you have there is a result of a dot changed to a line because some vid cards wouldn’t see dot. Now when plane contour approaches I see that the line is wider than the plane contours. This cause a dot to appear which gives the effect of an erroneous wing so hard to judge ac’s orientation.

I'm an 'uber pilot'??? LOL!

Hardly.

I'm a classic example of why this scoring system is ummm.. ahh.. 'incomplete'. (trying to be kind here)

I happen to like flyin the B26.. it is just plain a ball to fly in the close attack role. Then too; I like the challenge of sneakin a c47 in nape-of-the earth to capture fields. And I kinda like the strategic part of the game... hittin HQ; ruffin up the citys.. some nights this holds my intrest exclusively.

Then to top it off, when I do get in my pony, I fly it like a complete maroon; tearing out pages from all the rule books and spreading them like confetti on new years, and turn; turn; turn with it.

How'd I get to be a damn "uber-pilot" ??

Humph. Now my cat on the other hand... that's an 'uber-pilot". Punted the little sucker right uber the fence last night...

Hang (just another ponyboy)

I gave Coyote an expertly applied a** whuppin tonite in my G10 vs his Spit and got a rash of sh*t from him afterwards. No compliments on my flying-just a rant afterwards about my *vision* (while he was hiding from another whuppin   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)) He didn`t even identify my plane correctly claiming I was in a c205,maybe he should go read Hangtimes thread about "Arrogance in the Text Buffer" and get a clue about what the sim really is about-IMO it`s not about "scorewhoring",I could give a rats a** about my score-it`s about having fun with your friends/squaddies-and even your virtual enemies. Hangtime and I wasted at least 25 minutes BS`ing tonight prior, during and after a fight I instigated with him,as usual he shot me down but it really doesn`t matter to me who won,and his kill did show up in the buffer-I complimented him on open channel for all to see.I would much rather see my kills/defeats presented in this fashion than the server spitting them out in emotionless text,if your only gratification comes from your score or seeing your name in the buffer go fly a boxed sim-you will get what you need. IT`S MORE THAN A GAME!

I like the new system. I have noticed many of the rediculus excusses and banters by pilots that think they should never die have dropped off! The victor is the guy that doesn't die for whatever reason. When we die, do it with dignity, replane and go up and let our skills and guns do the talking.

I dont get the nastyness that keeps growing in this game. Properly modeled squeaking. Is a soldier complaining about his equipment, food, mission, so forth.

Why did this thread get personel. I hear people online raggin on torque all the time. why. This thread has comments about another player. why. I give my opinion of messages. And Im told to go play box sims. That dont even make sense. What the hell is with you people.

No nastiness intended TT,and I`m not trying to tell you to go fly a boxed sim. One of my biggest failings is being too blunt-it gets me in a lot of hot water at times but if I candy-coat things then I`m not being true to my nature, and that makes me uneasy with myself. What I was trying to express is there is a deeper level to this sim than just a persons score,it really doesn`t mean zip to me,and my comment about the boxed sim was referring to the other thread about "blowing the dust off EAW" and flying for free. It`s hard to express in text what I mean by deeper level,I guess it comes down to my personal experience and friendships I`ve made through first Warbirds and now Aces High, there`s some really great people among us and if you take the time to get to know them you will understand what I mean. Hope I made myself a little clearer this time

I personally understand the intent by implementing the change to the kill messaging.

However, I am a 40 year old hasbeen that is hopelessly competetive  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I kinda liked everyone knowing that I bested one of the better pilots in the game (or at least bounced him when he wasn't lookin  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif))

Either way, it's a great game.....and whats really nice is that it will only get better  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Rude Out!
