The second one was taken on my birthday!

Lt. William H. "Bill" Bunn. 307th FS, 31st Fighter Group Jun '44 to May '45. Credited with one kill, a JU-88. Got hits on a 262 and would probably have gotten a kill but his rudder hinge broke flipping him inverted at 400+ on the deck. I met him at the Gathering of Mustangs in '07, someone needs to do his skin someday.

Wayne Handley's Raven, shot on slide film back in 1997-1998 a year or so before his crash that ended his airshow career. I flew an F-15E to that airshow and after meeting Wayne during the performer's reception, hung out with him and his crew all weekend.
Aegis cruiser flyby. Turns out that even though we can participate in a 100 aircraft mission package and put 4 fighters on each wing of a tanker while another plane refuels, it's against some air force regulation to have a formation of 5 fighters without majcom DO permission. Oops. At least the Navy appreciated it since they got both a neat flyby and a 6-ship raid tracking exercise out of it. At least we kept it at or above 500'...
I have more but these will have to do.

It's actually yours trully, UPS Denver ramp ... night ... snowing ... frost.

No, I live and work in the south central U.P.
However, the company I work for has a storage/test facility in O-town. (East side of the river right next to the breakwater.) On occasion I have the good fortune of spending quality time in the area.
If you ever make it back to the U.P. I have to recommend you take a trip up into the Keweenaw Peninsula. Land your bird and spend an evening at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge. Copper Harbor has some great history as well. If I could pick any other place to live, other than where I'm at, it would be in the Keweenaw.
:salute
EDIT: Yeah, I know Sidnaw quite well too. And Frenchy, that was a great pic.
-
Do you know Diz and Brad Frederick? They are the caretakers of the airport up at Sidnaw and they have a fly-in every year. I should be back up that way labor day weekend.

While I do know some Fredericks, I can't say that I know those two.
Did you land at any other fields in the area?

Its from the top of the hill at W-174, which is sort of southwest of Naha. There's a bombing range out there on the island in front of the hill I'm on there. Had 53's drop myself and 3 other Marines out there with a battalion 81's platoon and the FACs/AO. 3 days I think. We were controlling the airspace in the Warning Area and doing the long haul comms back to the island.

Udorn, 1975.
After the Fall of Saigon we had a few months of 'normal ops' before the student riots and 'Palace Lightning' ..the U.S. pull out of Southeast Asia.
That F-4 off my right shoulder chucked a few turbine blades out the left engine one night just after sundown during an engine run.
I was workin a couple revetments down, heard the engine fire up, a few seconds later throttle was advanced and it 'coughed' ..
..bright flash out front of the revetment.
Engine returned to idle ..then crew cheif ran it up again.
Bright sparks overhead in high arcs as several turbine blades departed the aircraft,
..engine sounded like a roaring fire instead of a jet engine this time,
..much brighter out front and flames/smoke comin over the top of my arc of view
( I had glanced up and seen the sparks arcing into the sky at the sound change)
I shut my bird down, peeked around the corner, saw the crew cheif beating feet off to the horizon
..and the flashing light parade off in the distance headin my way.
I exited the area post haste.
The bird burnt to a greasy spot.
Investigation revealed the crew cheif had failed to install the engine screen lower safety lock
(big gnarly steel lookin thing with a safety pin to keep the lower half of the screen hooked tight to the bird)
When it coughed apparantly it sucked in that big steel safety lock.
Just another day on the line.

One of 8 Group Photographic Officer Squadron Leader Howard Lee's classics. It appears in Ian Thirsk's book:

Most of these were taken with my trusty, yet ancient, cellphone camera.
This was on the way to an airshow. We're flying formation with a Travel Air Biplane, which in this case is mostly red. Anything red with multiple wings is the Red Baron, in my mind. The winding creeks and farmland as far as the eye can see might as well be part of Europe. There's some metal wires in front of my open cockpit which masquerade as being necessary to hold the plane together; they form an X shape though so obviously they must a gunsight. That's all the ingredients I needed for for short jump back in time.

Aero Union P-3s. Aero Union is no more as of not too long ago. Not sure where the planes are now, probably Sacramento I'd guess. 27 used to be my Grandfather's plane.
