I thought it was a 51 b/c
(isn't the difference between the b/c models is where they were built?)

B was built in California and C was built in Texas (So naturally the C was the better airplane)
-
A-36 Apache? It was an attack bomber and predecessor to the P-51 Mustang and was replaced by the A-26 bomber in it's bombing role so it bears a striking resemblance to the P-51B.

Hold on, where was the "D" buit?

Wrong.
The A-36 was a dive bomber developed from the P51, not a predecessor.
-
My mistake, I think it was the K model built in the Big D.
