I've been thinking about doing this.

Does anybody here have experience with homebuilding tube amps?
For that matter, does anybody have an old Dynaco ST-70 they would like to part with?

Still used mine until two years ago.
Will probably replace some components before I try to use it again but the literature claims it can pass square waves without ringing.

Wow. Havent even thought about those kits in 20 years. My father used to build em when I was a kid. I sold the last amp and pre amp he made just before I got married some 28 years ago for some forgotten sum.
I remember like it was yesterday my father calling me downstairs into the basement to hold some itsy bitsy part in place while he soldered it and him saying. "Hold it very still. If you move it, even a little bit. I'll *@#&# strangle you."
Always one with the loving words of encouragement my old man was. LMAO
Anyway I still have his original Bose 901 series I speakers from like 1973 in my attic(with EQ) which as of about two years ago when was the last time I hooked them up. They still sounded fantastic. Though the cloth grill cover isnt what it used to be.
WOW. In looking for a picture of them. It turns out they are something of a collectors item.

Awesome! I was sure I'd find at least one person here who knew what I'm talking about.
Do any of you guys know of any Solid State kits out there that are worth looking into?

What is the purpose of your future amp?

What is the purpose of your future amp?
Pure audiophilia.
I already own a decent JVC solid state stereo that I use to run CD, home theater, etc.
However, one night a friend and I were discussing my plan to start utilizing my vinyl collection more often. My buddy suggested that I check out the Van Alstine website because he was always impressed with his equipment. One thing lead to another and I started looking further into building my own amp. Unfortunately it looks like I'll need to get my hands on a used St-70 in order to utilize AVA's upgrade kit.
Unless...
The company I work for has two fully operational fabrication shops and paint departments. I'm thinking that if I bought the AVA upgrade kit, I would only need to buy tubes, power supply and have my own chassis fabbed up and painted.
Anyway, so much to think about. I prefer to plan this out properly and get it right the first time. Of course you know that silly mistakes can get awfully expensive in this hobby.
Ugh... so many details.

Those 901s are the one thing that Bose ever did right. All of their current noteriety is relient upon this design.
