Seems to me that troopers will be far tooo lit up by comparison to gv's soon.
I would favour switching them off entirely ............ our ten man commando squads should be capable of a modicom of concealment after all

LOL... wow... GV concessions are being asked for left and right these days...

Icon range maybe :headscratch: Trying to think along the lines of how visible troop movements from the air would be. Certainly the chutes would be visible at some distance. On the ground, I would agree with the removal of icons the way they are on gvs.
Krusty,
The edge has been tilted away from base capture as a generator of balanced fights. I think it was a huge impact on the ability to capture bases when the introduction of the great looking towns came about. In an attempt to balance this a town flag and building percentage was introduced. Still we have the need for large overwhelming forces to promote the idea that a base capture attempt is worthy (hard to convince me and most veteran players otherwise). I believe that capture of a base should be a ground oriented task, involving ground vehicles and animated troops. Enough of the fighters carrying bombs to shut down airfields (don't get me wrong- I enjoy tool shedding but believe it should have it's place strategically and not the definitive "shut the other guys down" currently in effect).
If I had my wish, it would be to have troops take over tower of an airfield (deacked of course) that would signal an all out ground battle over the town with all of its great hiding places.

I just think its time to move on.
Its not really a gv concession other than it lessens the ability for AC to straff out chutes
Interms of anti gv stuff I would favour giving the IL2 the PTaB's that were so commonly used.

+1 the troops are way to visible

And this means.... what exactly? Just because the main focus of the game is aerial combat doesn't mean the aircraft are supposed to be able to smash the GV's under any circumstances with near-total impunity (which is what we had before).
Anyway, +1, I think this idea would be great.
It would increase the importance of GV's in the capture and defense of bases (really, I feel they should be of almost pivotal importance, considering that paratroopers dropped in the middle of enemy territory with no plans for ground reinforcments, even WITH air supremecy, wouldn't be able to hold a possition for more than about a week).
To steal an idea from somebody, personally I would like to see friendly troops occupying the buildings and some added defense works, that can kill enemy troops dropped in by air. Aircraft could only see that a building or defense possition is occupied (and the buildings that are occupied would be chosen at random when the town begins to flash) when it begins firing on the paratroopers or when a spotter aircraft/GV is within maybe 1000yds of them or something.
To capture the base, you just have to clear the town of enemy infintry and have 10 of your troops enter the maproom, rather than destroy a set number of buildings.

:rofl :aok I like that too! Could have the mutt from Nintendo's Duck Hunt come out and snicker at you when you missed the infantryman, popping out and shooting from the tower. (But seriously I do like the idea of AI infantry shooting, but only if troopers attacking maproom could shoot back at the defending AI, and then when all are killed the white flag would pop up).

Pretty sure you mean -in- or -for- the town when you say OVER ...? I like your vision of a REAL fight for the town, it would go hand in hand with the concept of a defensive troop squad.
The only problem I see with it is coordinating player activity to avoid MASS CONFUSION. You KNOW that attackers will develop mechanical routines and form into cooperative -teams-, but defenders are likely to be a hodge podge of players with variable experience levels, who just happen to be available. In reality, it's the DEFENSE that is planned & well organised and the offense that must adapt and exploit unforseen opprotunitys.
