Title: Spitfire IX wings ripping off
Post by: TourDeForce on December 30, 2011, 10:40:46 PM
Had this happen twice.  First time I had been in a high speed dive a few minutes earlier and attributed it to over-stressed wings.

A few days later, after gingerly flying about, I was chasing a Yak in almost level flight when both wings suddenly ripped from the plane for no apparent reason.  No high speed dives as this was a low alt engagement from the start.

Seems to me I've read that the Spitfire wings were relatively sturdy in normal use....

If you feel something happened that should not have happened, please feel free to send in a film to us.  More than happy to take a look at it.  There is a lot of data in films which help us debug.

By the way, stress is cumulative.  Just FYI.

There are variations of things you must consider, do you have a film of it? Wings don't simply "rip off" for no reason, it could of been puffy ack? field ack? Anti aircraft artillery? enemy plane behind you?

Spitfire wings can take a few hits and survive, but not to many - You have to auto film everything.

I'm surprised - in AH terms, I only thought damage from ammo was cumulative - not stress from repeatedly bending of airframe.

Take a few bullets in the spitfires wing, then do a hard G pull - it comes off everytime, same for any other aircraft.

I had the unfortunate way of learning during an FSO in a P40N, took a few rounds then spotted buffs on the deck, thought I could
dive to 500mph through the formation and zoom climb, except I yanked down hard and well...no more wings! lol

This game needs to also include random systems failures.

LOL!

No, Skuzzy doesn't need any more overtime reviewing films of the game operating as tolerated.

Can you imagine random failures? The whines would crescendo until Texas had a massive earthquake and fell off the mainland.

The internet already provides random failures.
