Title: GV Wish
Post by: chaser on December 31, 2011, 03:36:02 PM
I wish rounds would stop going through tanks like they aren't thee. Happens all the time. The round will make a small flash, not the normal flash of a hit, and then go through the tank and hit the ground on the other side. It seems to be a totally random happening and I can't find that it happens more at any particular angles or with any particular GV or gun. It's very frustrating to watch my round go through the tank and hit behind them and watch them turn a kill shot me  :bhead

Got film? if not it didn't happen. Due to graphic settings and such what you "see" might not be what really happened. Post a film. HTC can get a LOT more data from the films than the player we use can. If you post it so of these guys with the super computer might even be able to tell you what happened.

hitech already replied to this one.  he said it is just a visual thing with the game.  the round actually stops at the tank but for everybody else it just keeps going till it hits the dirt.  that's why when you look at the town you see rounds passing thru several houses sometimes but only damaging once.

"Lag" is the problem here.

I have probably 40 films of it. I'm not at home right now so I can't post them. It happens to everyone though, not just me.

I see MY rounds go through tanks though. I know that you see everyone elses rounds go through stuff untill they hit the gound. With my round though, it goes thorugh their tank but doesn't do any damage.

Here's one of many films I have. of this happening. It's not the best but just happened a few minutes ago. I hit the M18 square but the round went through and he killed me about 2 seconds later.

If you watch that film and slow it waaaay down, you will see at about the 10 second mark that your hit was on the TOP of the M18 and it actually ricocheted off the top hull armor.  The impact was almost completely parallel and that is why it didn't penetrate.  With that said, the round then passed though the turret just below the mantlet.  I dont know if HTC has it coded that once the round hits armor it loses its AP ability to do further damage.  With that example, it sure looks like it.

So for the time being I say the damage model did what it was supposed to do.  The armor worked.   ;)

I did some more "research" on that impact and I was able to zoom in  *real* close and actually get inside the M18 near where the driver would sit.  You can see where the impact hits about 6 inches from the front armor on the top of the hull.  There is a break in the tracer at that mark where it disappears below the armor.  It is there the almost parallel impact happened.   :D  (this is fun stuff, dissecting all this)

I can confirm this as well as just about every other tanker whose ever fired a round and watch it hit and pass through a tank.

It's a glitch far as I can tell where instead of deflecting it goes through the tank and looks like a kill shot.

Didnt someone bring up the theory once upon a time that if the AP round is going too fast when it hits that it could effectively shatter before it is able to do its full damage?  This would be why many knife fight close shots do not = automatic kill.  Just askin....

there is one guy who I shoot with my M-18, then he turns and shoots me a second or two later, I die,, then he dies about 6 seconds later!  It really stinks  I doubt he can fix it, he is apparently on satellite  but it sure isn't any fun,, the only good thing Is he always drives a brown T-34  so I just try to not get seen by him,  I bet he has 15 or more kills on me after I shot him,,, if your near me you can thank me for all the free proxies!

I'm fairly sure shatter gap isnt modelled, although the strange glitches you get sometimes when firing at close range replicate the effect quite nicely.

I honestly dont recall ever seeing this, and I have alot of GV kills.

Is it a function of lag, is it a representation of a hit that doesnt richochet, but causes no damage, is it a game bug?  can HTC explain this further, because I really dont understand

I too was going to mention the same thing.  Glad you did it first.  The "lag" that people like to point fingers at really *isn't* there.

I've seen this happen too and while it is frustrating, the cartoonist is right.  If you didn't catch it on film it didn't necessarily happen.
