So, tonight i was thinking, and i really started wondering where do we go when we die? Do we go to heaven, burn in hell/vacation in Pittsburgh? Or do we just slip into an un-reversable coma and just sit there and do nothing? Maybe we re-incarnate or we just go to some different world? you know, i'd like to find out but i don't feel like dying. I know most of you guys here are probably not going to experts on such a thing, but i'd like to know where you guys think we go when were gone.

ask the muppets they're heading that way :noid.

I was hoping this would be somewhat serious...
-
This will most likely get modded, Since heaven and hell are a religious-related discussion.
-
This is the only thought that ever stops me dead cold in my tracks, and I have a feeling it has the same effect on most people. Deep stuff, and everything would be different if we knew the answer.

*facepalm*
no..just no.
Deep stuff, and everything would be different if we knew the answer.
Sometimes i wonder if its better that we shouldnt know? If we knew the ultimate answer to the ultimate question, then what else would be left?

Always self improvement in this chapter of existence, even if it's just only 1 chapter, or a tiny bit in the whole novel.

Sometimes i wish that self improvement could take a break :lol it seems that no matter what us humans are doing, were always making a mistake in someone elses sight.

where does the flame "go" when you blow out a candle?
-

Few things are as serious as the tiny little red rocket semp has poking out for the muppets.
-
it is the final frontier.....
-
Well its a lot like the question of do u want to know when you will die? I myself don't really care to know. Its a real headscratcher... :headscratch:
-
I'm more worried about how I get there than where I end up.
-
The realization of our own ultimate demise is what separates us from the lower animals and the men from the boys. Adolescents and children secretly believe that they will live forever. Men have created opiates to deal with the finality of it all but recognize it none the less.

I like to believe that as long as I stay moderately healthy and don't do drugs or drink I'll live forever, thats what gets me out of bed every day

I'd like to think that too, but the reality of the situation is that is not the case.

You go to sleep.
When you wake up, you forget everything and now you're a newborn.

You could be the best driver ever and get t-boned by some dumbarse soccer mom talking on her cell phone and never know what hit you.

You could tell him that. And he'd verbally agree with you... But in the back of his mind he knows that he's the best driver ever and will live forever.

There was a good thread about this subject a few years ago started by LYNX about life after death..... searching...

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

You need to watch 2001, A Space Odyssey. You will see the truth at the end of the movie

Driving is dangerous, I realize that, i almost got t boned crossing the high way a few months ago, woman in her cadillac figured she would run a red light, had to slam on the gas to avoid getting hit

the only thing you can be sure you will experience and yet you will never have any idea. death is the secret of life, there is only one way to to figure it out, and even that way is not for sure :D

now for the funerals I have been to (father, grand parents and such) I always end up thinking in the natural way and later on I start thinking about my own death, the organs I will donate, where the money will go if i have many at the time... etc etc
Also I think of how everybody becomes a hero as soon as they die, no matter what kind of stupidity the person did, no matter what, in the end people will say the person is a saint... and then I just stop thinking about it at all and go play a game :D

In the back of your fragile eggshell mind the experience did nothing but reinforce your self-diagnoses of imperviousness.
All young people secretly believe that they will be the first person in the history of the world to live FOREVER.

I like to think death is so far down the road that I don't need to worry about it

I'm a young person, and I know I will die someday. Never use the world "all"

Congratulations; you're adult.

death is a part of life. how and when are irrelevant. so live life to its fullest

That is where your wrong. living forever is impossible. Also, i know i dont want to live forever.
Next time, try saying "some young people".

Sluggish, that's a No True Scotsman Fallacy. You can't base a conclusion about a group from the condition (i.e., all penguins that jump in lakes are penguins, therefore penguins that do not jump in lakes are zebras).

since its going to happen anyway, I dont worry about it much

If I was to choose my death, it would be a large explosion. Where I would go after that is easy. Probably 100ft in the air and scattered over a large radius.

This is not a debate technique; this is fact. Children do not have the capability to understand their own mortality. The dawning realization is a major part of becoming an adult.

I don't know. And I'm comfortable in the thought that those who claim they know don't know either.
But if I had to give an answer, I'd quote Epicurus : "death is nothing to us." When we exist death is not, and when death exists we are not. All sensation and consciousness ends with death and therefore in death there is neither pleasure nor pain. The fear of death arises from the belief that in death there is awareness.
Non fui, fui, non sum, non curo (I was not; I was; I am not; I do not care)
For having witnessed the death of some of my close relative, I'd say that there is peace in death. The sadness is for the others, not the dead.
I try to live a good life and I know it's going to end one day. I try my hardest for when that day comes, I will not look back on a life of missed opportunity and regrets. That's the only thing an humble man can hope for.

This is wierd... My dad is a funeral director, and my uncle works at a cemetery... I have never really stopped to wonder about after, just how/why.
I like to think that we die, and then we get another chance to redo things-- sort of like a reincarnation, but different, in that it isn't the real world. Like how here, in AH, if you die, you can reup, and fight the same guy again, but do things differently.
That one with the spending eternity with the people around you is good... I'm just gonna go skydiving, aim for the best place I can think of, and then stav myself. :D
Kidding :P
-
That being said of course, I have watched 100s of people arrange their own funerals, their loved ones' funerals, and some of the deceased have been 1, 2, 12, 13, 18, 20, 25, 40, 65, and 101. I've just always known I WILL die at some point, but I've also always hoped that I wouldnt--speak of false hopes, huh? :/

I went under general anaesthetic once. It went like this; awake in pain, awake in a different pain hours later. No transition. On, off.
That's death. I like the idea of reincarnation but really that's it. Being under anaesthetic proved it for me. When you sleep there is a sense of time passing. With anaesthetic none. Death must be the same.
When I die my two boys will carry on, carrying my genes. As long as they have kids I will live forever.
So there's no point in dying, no glory, no point. Live your life enjoy every minute, you'll be dead forever.

I've been under, too, but I've heard tales of what happens immediately before the brain shuts off, could that be considered 'death' or 'dying'?

Then I was well on my way at age 7, thanks to Grimm's Fairy Tales. I've been contemplating my own mortality ever since.

I guess I'm just not an interesting person, but I see no reason for anything to go anywhere. Decomposition. I don't think human consciousness is special and has to some how go to a different realm after the death of it's 'host': the brain.
