Title: Ink, please pick up the white phone.
Post by: Devil 505 on January 03, 2012, 03:25:31 PM
Ink, where can I find that multi-color skin position template? 109g-2 has a bunch of random parts that I have no idea where they go.

Thanks.

Is this (panelfinder) what you are hunting?

Thanks Von. I was looking for the upper canopy frames. Also I want to see how the upper cowling and MG troughs fit together.

I would wait on any work until the new version comes out, all the planes are gonna have a bump map added, I am not sure what that will entail, but it would suk to do a bunch of work that needs to be redone, I know I have put aside all skinning until the new version.

So far it's just basic stuff, panel lines and such. I'm more or less figuring out the steps of what needs to be done.

Speaking of which, how do I take my bitmap and view it in the skin viewer. I read Krusty's tutorial, but my comprehension skills are lacking.

make a new folder...say you are doing the P51B....go to the AH skin folder make a new one name it P51b_1... take the default p51b bmp image and place it in the folder, make a new text document in this new folder name it P51b, place anything in the text file I use "mine" save the text......open up the skin viewer and check that you see the Skin P51b_1 it will be the default for that's whats in the folder  :D

once you want to see the work on the plane just save over the default BMP   after you index it of course...

so the image in the folder does not have to be a .res image, a .bmp will work?

it has to be BMP

1024-1024 indexed.

OK, so I did all that and I still see nothing in either the skin viewer or offline.

Here is a screenshot of the folders and contents.

I realize the image is named 109g2_1.bmp.bmp, also does not work while named 109g2_1.bmp.

first thing I see right off the bat..the text file should just be "109g2"

both should be named 109g2

try naming the BMP 109g21....thats how my KI is named :headscratch:

i'll give that a try.

Edit.
Good news is there is now the correct name in offline.  The bad news is that it shows only the default bitmap on the aircraft, as if it was unedited.

Dear ink:

I know your busy, But if you get a chance, i'd be so very greatful if you could make a p-51D skin for offline with this type of symbol:

We trust your skinning technique and superior GIMP usage and are sure you'll give us a skin of fine quality for our ponies.

Sincerely,
The Bronies.

Another question, how can I copy a small piece from a layer (like a small hatch) and paste it in multiple locations, with out the background colors being copied as well?

use the free select tool trace out what you want...right click copy that will copy just what is in the selection.....paste as new layer.....move it to were you want in in the final image
