Now as HT said to me about aircraft that have seen service to be considered or added. What aircraft would people love to see?
Keep in mind aircraft have had to of seen some kind of service in WW2, so no Do-335 no Ho-229.
Me personally i would love to see the F7F Tigercat.

cool another poll. what happened to the last one?

no poll just seeing what people would like to see. i asked HT about that criteria. no rules but htc would like them to have seen service.
-
The TC never saw combat in WWII. It did see Korea, though.
Edit: after looking through some other threads, it looks like in my time since being away from the game, we had a poll. Options included the tigercat. If its true, disregard what I said, I was going by past criteria. <S>

True but it did see some service.
Edit; what other aircraft saw service in WW2 but didnt really get the chance to shoot at enemy aircraft?

Show me proof. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I've never read anything stating that it saw anymore than its brethren during production and shipment by the time the war ended.

I read in an old post someone sayin it saw service with the USMC and it was sent on patrol. thats about all i remember. I dont remember who said that either. i would have to look it up.
Edit; i also remember in an old info book i had when i was in Airforce ROTC. now i dont know how accurate the info is, but it stated delivery of the first F7F-1s began in april 1944 but only a few reached their squadrons before the F7F-2Ns began production.
None of the F7F-2Ns saw any service in WW2 from what i can find. Again I dont know how accurate the info is. I am currently looking up more info at the moment on it.

If the Do-335 doesn't qualify for consideration, the F7F should not either. The history is strikingly similar - a long development cycle with a lot of teething problems that kept the early models from being sent into combat (the F7Fs kept failing the acceptance trials for one reason or another). By the time the design was perfected and a production version started, it was too late to see combat. The only carrier-cleared version was the F7F-4, which was way too late for WW2 service.

Difference being that the Do335 never entered either service nor production while the F7F was in service and en route to Japan when the war ended.
Granted, that would not have been so had the Japanese surrendered on the same day as the Germans did.

In a wishlist, none of this matters if the aircraft wasn't in operational status in 1945. If there was a hypothetical 1946 era - then anything is possible.
Problem is piston engine would be easily phased out by the jets, however the biggest key would be most of the data from this "end war period" has been lost or forgotten and would be extremely hard to capitalize on.

Which criteria would include the Do-335....

1945/1946.
I call it the "What would happen if?" period, so much win though.

Where do you propose to the the flight modeling data for the German and Japanese aircraft that could have been in service in late 1945 and in 1946?

I requested the F7F awhile ago, only a single f7f flew in hostile skies during ww2. and even then, It did not receive any kills, or see any combat action.
-
F8F please :aok

You do understand that in service doesn't require combat? The Constellation was in service but never saw combat either.

Obviously I don't want to put words into HT's mouth but I'm assuming that HT forgot to add "service in WWII" and now people are just running with couple words here. I mean, F-22 is in service as we speak.
Of course one could also assume that he meant "service during WWII". Well, that I guess would be the best back door to bring things like F8Fs into the game...before things like Ki-43.

Honestly, the F8F being added might well cause me to cancel my subscription. That is a fighter that is so good that the fighters I like to fly, Mosquito VI, Spitfire VIII and Ki-84-Ia, would be grossly helpless against it, being out performed in all aspects other than perhaps firepower.

Show us where he said that ?

The Ki-84 grossly outperforms a number of planes. For instance, the entire P-40 lineup doesn't stand a chance against a Ki-84. They can dive away but will be overtaken soon enough. Should fans of the P-40 quit because of the Ki-84?
Planes like the Ki-84, 109-k4, P-38J and SpitXVI won't be able to rely on roping everyone if the F8 can catch them.
We have the 262 already, which (even though I fly it too) is unbalancing. You can only assume a defensive posture against it and the people with the skills to use it aren't worried about the perk cost. Between the two, I would say the 262 belongs less than the prop powered Bearcat.

3,000-3500 Ki-84s fought in WWII. How many F8Fs?
The margin of superiority between a Ki-84 and a P-40 is much narrower than that of, say, a Ki-84 and F8F. The F8F will outrun anything short of a Tempest and out turn anything short of an A6M while climbing faster than a Spitfire Mk XVI using 150 octane, which our Mk XVI does not.
I do not think you understand how dominant the F8F would be.

Pffft. Wouldn't stand a chance against the Westland Whirlwind.

No F8Fs saw combat but were produced in numbers and quite literally on their way to the scene. If that excludes them it is a shame. Such a great bird deserves to fly in the war it was made for - or at least the cartoon version. It wasn't some drawing board fantasy or one off prototype. They were ready to go to war.
As far as how dominant it would be, that is up to HTC's data and implementation. If it were so uber, it would be heavily perked anyway. Would love to see it mop up Spit XVIs and run down P-51Ds. That would be a beautiful day. :)

I think the wing loading is incorrect on the Wikipedia page for the F8F. It says 66.7 lb/ft² (192.1 kg/m²) but I get something like 33 lb/ft² for a middle load out and 39 for their maximum take off weight :headscratch:

From the USAAF! They took many captured rides to the US for testing (the Do-335 among them).
All we need to do is get the aircraft test reports from the archives.

Did the F7F see any combat? I hadn't seen any reports of that (which puts it with the Do-335). I thought I had read that the early F7Fs got turned into nightfighters since they couldn't pass the carrier acceptance regime. Did they run any combat missions with them?
I think you are right about VE vs VJ day as far as the German rides are concerned - there are several German rides and variants that would have undoubtedly seen combat if the war had gone on a few more months. I can think of many forum arguments (excuse me, ah discussions) about things like the Do-335, He-162, 109K4 with the 1.98ata/2000Hp boost rating, etc. The big problem with getting late war German rides in this game isn't that they were not ready to be sent into combat, but that the Germans were unable to do in the war due to lack of fuel, spare parts, pilots, getting their airfields getting blasted daily, etc. Couple that with the wholesale destruction of records at the end of the war and it is no wonder we have such a problem getting accurate data on German rides.

Since there is so much want for these planes why not make an experimental/postwar areana for all planes pre-1950???

Have you looked at the 1946 topic tuton? take a look. If we start with a 1946 arena, most of the Late War Planeset could be included, providing familiar rides for experienced players along with the newer planes. If it were popular it could always be expanded.

I think you'll find that the Do335 is one of the few that there is data for, and for that one we have German data as well.
Try finding data for the Ho229, Me263, A7M2, J7W1, J7W2, G8N and so on. Data for those doesn't exist because either they never reached the point where the data could be gathered or because the data was destroyed.
Any 1946 arena would either be dominated by American and British aircraft or it would have fantasy "best guess" flight models for the Axis aircraft.

Here's how we get the F8F: KOREA
The french used it... there diversity already starting :noid

Thought criteria was that it had to see combat in Squadron Strength???
