Title: Normandy Summer - Score
Post by: Bino on January 08, 2012, 11:30:27 PM
The "fog of war" has obscured the battlefields of northern France.  Both sides claim numerous aerial kills and severe damage to surface targets, but a precise accounting will only be possible later.  The Battle Of Normandy rages on...

This is the BBC Home Service.  Here is the nine o'clock news.  Large formations of enemy aircraft today attacked targets in northern France and the English Channel,  but the enemy's aerial armada came in for heavy punishment.  Over 118 German planes were destroyed for the loss of only thirty-five of our own aircraft.  Thirteen of these pilots were saved. Several Allied aerodromes were also attacked and some casualties were sustained, but they were light.

Here is the German Weekly View!

Huge formations of Luftwaffe fast-attack-bombers have destroyed large concentrations of Allied ground troops in the Normandy area!  Additionally, more than two hundred Allied aircraft were destroyed in the air!  Twenty of our valiant pilots were able to safely parachute or crash-land near German positions!

Frame One: Axis Victory

Frame Two: Draw

Frame Three: Axis Victory

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

There were only a small handful of "friendly fire" incidents throughout the frames.  No points, neither positive nor negative, were awarded for those few kills.

In Frame One a minor penalty was assessed on the Allies for rolling too many recon P-51Ds, and also for a pilot who re-planed in a different type for a second sortie.

Frame Two might be seen as a slim Axis Victory, but I feel the scores are really very close to being even.

Frame Three saw the Axis outscore the Allies primarily on kills.

And of course, at the end of the day, Festung Europa has been breached.  The invasion of Normandy has succeeded.  The Allies are in France.

 :salute Bino for the time and effort you put in.  As I said privately, I think this FSO was a barn burner.  Close fields lead to fast fights and many re-armed to go at it again!Also, wanted to point out to the community what an interesting setup you had..... All fields in England we open for all aircraft.  How ofter you you guys see that in FSO?  The radar makes me laugh.  I must of had 20 PMs (one from other Admin) saying:  Check your settings... Radar is on!  I walk away trying to learn a lesson.  My father landed 3 days after D day.  Good thing air cover wasn't spilt 55 % allied and 45% axis.   :cheers: Bino!

I had lots of fun with this one being back as a flight lead in VF-17. It also gave me and a bunch of others in our group a chance to go back and review our tactics for what has worked, what hasn't worked and what we need to tweak here and there to make it work better.

Great setup, dang shame I only got one multi sortie flight in this setup but two of the three frames we were either escorting or heavy escorts into the lions den at A74 and that was a blast going up against the first team for the Axis in frame 2 and 3.
