Just a thought, could we get multiple gunners in bombers? It would be beneficial to have multiple gunners so streams could hit the targets or be split between multiple targets when needed. 1 per plane maybe?
Bomber convergence, if we can't have multiple shooters in bombers, how about convergence settings for bombers? If you .target and set 1k the streams are all over, 500 is deadly, but a cannon bird can rip you apart before he gets to the sweet spot for convergence.

hitech has said many times that we can either have mutiple gunners or all the guns enslaved to one gunner. choose one but not both :).
as for convergence you cant have one because the gun themselves move around individually.

I think that the guns should have a 'delay' built into them, so not all 3,000 guns start firing at once in a set of B17's when you're flying in on them. You'd get instant feedback from the gun you're using both starting and stopping fire, then other guns would bleed in and start firing between all the rest of the plane and formation, and bleed out in the same way.

Only the guns that point at what you are shooting at, without shooting through another one of your planes, fire when you "Shoot all".
Jump around the gunner positions of your drones. The same position on different planes will often have a different amount of rounds left.
If you do not want to fire every gun that bears on a target when you shoot, map a different button on your stick to fire primary only.
Otherwise why would you want to penalize yourself by not firing every gun you could at what you want to shoot at?

The issue is that if they move individually then why don't they all hit the target? An airplane comes in and start firing at 1000 enslaved guns should hit at the same point of targeting, not 300 feet off to each side and one tail gun hitting the target. All three tail guns should hit the same place if they are enslaved.

The guns from the separate bombers converge at 500 yards. The guns on an individual bomber do not converge, but rather fire parallel to each other.
The game has no way to determine the range at which you wish your guns were converging.

I have been told that the 3 B-17's or any formation of "buffs" have a converge point of 600 yards. I ran some tests for my squad mates and found this to be true. I went into the training arena, placed a "target" at 1,000 yds, 800 yds, 600 yds and 400 yds. At 1,000 yds, with all three (3) tail position guns firing in the 17's, the drone to my right and to my left were crossing the "mother" ship bullet stream before their stream arrived at the target and so there fore not even touching the target! I fly a X-52 stick and what I have found works best for me is this: it has a "primary" and "secondary" position on the same trigger, first pull is primary and if pulled all the way back, both primary and secondary guns fire. What I do is this: if an aircraft is 700yds to 1,000 yds behind my bombers, I only fire the primary as the drone guns are just wasting ammo. Once the aircraft gets within 700yds, I will pull trigger all the way back so that the drones will then fire on the target aircraft also. There is also, of course, some "lag" problems that you have to take into consideration. I agree that the drones should also fire at the same point that the "mother" ship is firing at, because in the real world, that is what happend. One other method I have found is helpful is take a "gunner" with you on your missions and have him move to a drone and use only his primary fire switch, that way you both have bullet streams arriving at a target 1,000 yds back.

How? The game has no way of determining what the intended range is.

Then give us a convergence setting so we can "determine" what the intended range is.

You can't have convergence on buffs guns. The guns move independent of each other, unlike the fixed guns in a fighter.

Slight tangent here:
What happens when the Tab key is pressed? A little box appears around the attacking fighter. Does this do anything to which guns fire where?
-
Gr8pape, there already is a convergence for the guns from other drones. The bullet streams from the 3 bombers converge at 500yds. Thats your convergence.
I used to think that having the convergence range for the guns from the two drones change in acordance with the range to a target selected with the Tab key. But then I got to thinking. Thats a F*** of a lot of bullets flying around. Even without the drones, you will almost always have at least 4 .50's firing on the target. If he swings a little to the left, that number jumps upto 7 in the US heavy bombers. Multiply that by 3 drones, and you have 21 .50's firing at the target.
Thats just too much firepower for the fighter to be facing.
RufusLeaking, no, it just marks the target for you. IIRC, its purpose is to let you keep track of a specific enemy in a busy furball.

The explanation in pictures from one of my sorties from long, long, ago. Note the fixed, non-adjustable convergence of the ammo stream. Also, the line under the center of the sight represents .50 cal. round drop-off at 1K. At that distance, I put the enemy plane right in that mark, and it works.

There is no convergence on a single gun position.
What you are asking for is to be able to control where the .50 cal. streams converge at any given time?
How about they just code it so fighters explode when you pull the trigger.
The way it is now, if you cannot kill a fighter with a death star formation of buffs in this game, you are doing something wrong and need to consult 999000 or thunderegg.
Carry on :salute

that just represent what us noobs do in b17. I want 999 to post how he kills everybody :D.

Bomber convergence is set at 500. I forget who (maybe Debrody) demonstrated this in another thread with screenshots and that huge target thing in the TA.
