Title: Saitek AV8R-03
Post by: B4Buster on January 09, 2012, 11:53:37 AM
I have been using an AV8R-01 for years and finally upgraded as my old one was falling apart. The dual throttles seemed to be stuck together with a piece of plastic. Does anyone have an AV8R-03? Is it actually dual throttled? I'll be disappointed if not...

You don't need no stinkin' dual throttles. :P

I rarely use my dual throttles, but every once in a while it works really nice to snap the wings over near stall and get the plane to go the way you want it to.

Yes I do  :cry

I know they don't do much to help. It's just a psychological thing.

Isn't there like a little button on the side that makes them detach?  My friend had an AV8R of some type and thats how it works.

There is a spring button between the two... if they're stuck, you could probably just tap out the little plastic tab, or cut it with a razor.

The AV8R-01 has a spring button. This one has a solid plastic tab. Once I get in game I'll see if there's even an option to map two seperate throttles. If there is, that would suggest the second throttle can infact be moved independently.

I just did some research. It is not actually dual throttle.

.... and from what I read... good luck making it fully work on a PC.

I use AV8R-01, and have both throttles mapped independantly, and they work fine.

There seems to be a lot of folks pissed at the 03.

Sorry to hear that, that really blows.

Oh well. It isn't dual throttled but seems to work fine. I'll just use it until it breaks, then switch to CH

Grr...already don't like it. The axis are way too stiff, the throttle calibration is a bit off...it seems to be sticking somewhere.  :furious

I got the 01 because of the stiffness in the controls...  I thought Saiteks felt too chinsey, didn't have any feedback.

I'm sure the spring will get worn down eventually. I can always grease the pivot point up a bit too.

....or just return it. Their advertising is misleading. There are also complaints about the base is too lite allowing it to move around because of still springs.

Yep, the base is too light. I'll keep it, though. I'm sure I will get used to it eventually. If not, I can buy something else and use this as a backup.

Why not try the Saitek Cyborg FLY 5. It's got dual throttles and is in the same price range.

Have one brand new sitting in my closet. Tried it a few times and didn't like it. The design is a bit better, but I never quite fell in love with it.
